Mardan university student killed over alleged blasphemy: police

This will be a test for the KP govt and Justice system. The only way to eliminate this kind of mentality is through nazm; proper investigation, proper prosecution, and proper enforcement of law.

These people are on tape committing murder - this should be a straightforward matter. The state must not bow down to pressure from takfiris and other extremist elements. Mumtaz Qadri was hanged for killing a powerful man. Now it's time to apply the law equally to those who have killed a regular citizen of Pakistan.

As for 'blasphemy', even if this student did commit blasphemy, killing him is completely un-Islamic. Or rather, it is anti-Islamic. Because here is what Islam actually says about it:

"When you hear the signs of Allah held in defiance and ridicule, you are not to sit with them unless they turn to a different theme." [Qur'an 4:140]

"Hold to forgiveness, command what is right; but turn away from the ignorant." [Qur'an 7:199]

"Have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity)." [Qur'an 73:10]

"Allah is with those who restrain themselves." [Qur'an 16: 128]

"And if you punished, let your punishment be proportionate to the wrong that has been done to you; but if you show patience, that is indeed the best course. [Qur'an 16:126]

". . . But they uttered blasphemy . . . if they repent, it will be best for them, but if they turn back, Allah will punish them." [Qur'an 9:47]

So even when they deserve punishment, the Quran states that Allah will punish them. I wonder, do any of those crazed 'students' consider themselves to be Allah (nauzubillah)? Then what gives them the right to carry out such a punishment?

Killing innocents in the name of Islam is the true blasphemy.

I am certain there was some other 'dushmani' factor involved. That's how these things usually happen. Religion is used as an excuse, as a tool, and because of the level of jahalat in our society, all you need to get someone killed is accuse them of blasphemy.

Forget about studying 'wordly' subjects, if these 'students' had bothered to study Islam properly, they wouldn't have done this.

“Oh you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a better protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witnesses or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is ever well acquainted with what you do.”
(Surah Nisa: 135)

Pakistan should be declared a secular state that will be a hard slap on mullahs face who've been misusing this beautiful religion .
That will just play into their narrative that Islam is violent. By declaring Pakistan a secular state, we'd be effectively abandoning the notion that Islam is peaceful, and then the Mullahs win.

Their propaganda already says Pakistan is a kaffir state - secularisation won't be a slap on their face, it will be a victory for them.

Islam strongly demands justice above all else. It is up to the state to provide justice. This has nothing to do with secularism.

Islam itself encourages what people think is 'secularism'. Tolerance and justice for all is the essence of Islam. The degree to which that message has been corrupted is astonishing.

Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that you may receive admonition.” (Surah An-Nahl: 90)

Majority of terror activities in world has traced to the madrassas .

Yep and the reason is that extremisim is spreading in the Muslim world. One can't blame evil intelligence agencies anymore as the people wilfully themselves participate in death and destruction. Is the life of the prophet and caliph a hidden secret? Is the Qur'an not available on every language. Then why do these unholy unislamic terror events.

Madrassas are institutions that prepare terrorists to kill the innocent random people who don't have a beard , who don't pray , who listen songs and that all stuff ... as if Allah swt has given the madrassas the keys to hell . As if madrassas will decide who's going to hell or heaven . In fact these mullahs are the enemies of Allah swt , they think they're superior than Allah to kill anyone and declare anyone kafir or helli.

The mullahs were condemned in all ages. From imam ghazali to first Muslim thinkers to the sufis to Muslim reformers to even our forefathers like iqbal. All condemned the mullah. All saw the monster the mullah is. All saw how different they are from Islam and how dangerous they are to Islam. Indeed they are enemies. They spread jahalat. They spread fitna. Of course they are enemies. They turn one brother against the other bcz for what? He doesnt believe the first caliph was rightly elected. Is this a reason to kill? Is this a reason to harbor hatred. These mullahs only want power. They are no different than the idol worshippers and idol keepers of quresh. They have one mission spread fitna and jahalat. Yet who is more jahil.
The man that speaks hatred and curses and leads prayer or the one who listens to the hatred and curses and knows in his heart this is not Islam yet follows behind him.

I agree with you , we , the people are some blind sheep's who blindly supper terrorists like maulana burqah, hakeem ullah mehdood, hafiz saeed etc .
I REMEMBER when hakeem mehsood was killed then some people shared his photos as " dekho kitna noor ha chehray pe Allah ka sipaahi , Allah ka mujahid " nauzubillah.

Hopeless. Madness and yet this is true. We are filled with extremist terrorist sympathizers while we know the difference between and a mujahid is as big as day and night.

We are sick just like Americans who support trump , like indians who support modi , like every other stupid humans who support wrong and then cry ,

Of course we are. We are munafiqeen. A nation filled with munafiq and munafiq not just in religion but in every walk of life. Lying scum bags. Then we wonder why are hopeless.

why did God do this to us ?

God didn't do this at all. He gave us free will and then gave us intelligence and then sent to us a book where clearly laws are written and a prophet whose actions were deemed to be repeated by all. God then sent reformers who showcased what an amazing and blessed being a true Muslim is. How is it God's fault if we can't be bothered to read the book we have in our homes. The book that was sent not on mullahs but on the people of the earth. Is it so hard to open and read the text and understand it? God told us that no matter what era or age if you follow the book and the prophet then you will be the greatest on the planet. Nowhere did he say follow the mullah. Follow the book and the prophet. We know the book teaches us love and peace. We know the prophet thought patience and love and care. If we do these acts then do we not deserve this fate. GOD LOOKS AT US wondering when we will simply open the door and open the book and change ourselves. We have seen the greatness and mercy of God and we have seen the truth yet we turn our backs.

How can we not be cursed when we through our actions clearly state that, " God you are wrong and your prophet was wrong and not you but we have perfected your religion for you. You say patience, we say madness, you say no compulsion, we say only compulsion and force, your prophet said peace, we say war, your prophet said love, we say hate, your prophet spoke of tolerance but we say intolerance. Look we will slay the apostates and perfect your religion" nauzubillah

This is what our actions say and then why do we wonder we are cursed when the path to greatness was revealed to us and we said no. Your path is wrong. This path is right.

Well said. That is probably the main issue - if people actually read and understood the Holy Quran, 'radicalisation' would be impossible. What these Mullahs preach is literally the opposite of what the Prophet (s.a.w) preached.

How do they manage to convince people that what they say is actually Islam? By spreading and taking advantage of ignorance.

This type of manipulation and distortion of religion for nefarious political purposes is a much greater act of fasad fil ard than any 'blasphemous' speech.

.
Such incidence reminds, Pakistan still have cultural cults which originate from pre-partition time.

.
There is no such thing as blasphemy in Islam. This is a Christian concept that Muslims have copied due to colonialism.

Yea highly educated people under the influence of the ideology introduced by zia ul haq.You can find millions like this in pakistan.Tell me something new @haviZsultan
Brother a lot of false concepts and ideologies have been promoted in Pakistan since Jinnah died. One is that Islam and secularism are names of 2 different systems which are poles apart, entirely different. A little research into the history of muslims or ibn rushd will explain this is a popularist lie. The people want to impose religion at the point of sword without thinking if a law is discriminatory to the smaller number of their same national kin. Everything that is wrong with muslims today starts from there. Disagreement does not mean you can kill a person. Debate on religion, ijtehad was blamed by Iqbal for the fall and decline of islamic society.

People have become zombies. I have talked about this endlessly and feel very sad about where my country is going. Quaid e azam on 11 august 47 made a speech that was truly in the secular Islamic spirit. Yet that part of history is hidden, put in a corner. Pakistan studies is taught where objectiveness or critical thinking in this regard is never promoted. If the education system is not improved we may fall deeper into the hole we have dug ourselves into.

I was unable to watch the video that was circulated to me by a friend from Pakistan.

Islam that I follow teaches love and kindness not the barbarism and ruthlessness of the Wahhabi/Salafi doctrine. You cannot be a Muslim unless you are a human being. Certainly the attitude displayed there is of Stone Age sub humans not of educated university students.

But what can one expect from a society where a cold blooded killer Mumtaz Qadri is venerated as a saint and Lal Masjid mullah is free to carry on with his hateful speeches despite refusing to condemn murder of 120 APS students!

But then who cares about the bark of the liberals. PTI lawmaker would prefer to throw the seculars out of Pakistan altogether. Sorry to say that since the Zia era, Islam in our society has lost its soul. Human life has little value.

Three cheers for the blasphemy laws, long live the student wing of JI.

Madrassahs facilitating terrorism constitute important, yet far from exclusive, avenues of radicalisation.

One need not attend a madrassah to become a terrorist, neither in Pakistan nor anywhere else.

The literature on Pakistani madrassahs suggests that the presence of a madrassah is an unnecessary and insufficient precondition for terrorism. With regard to necessity, the counterfactual – that the absence of a madrassah is accompanied by the absence of terrorism – fails to withstand empirical scrutiny.

Ironically, the single event that most successfully brought madrassahs to the forefront of international attention – 9/11 – was executed by 19 men, none of whom graduated from a madrassah

In examining the profiles of 79 terrorists involved in "five of the worst anti-Western terrorist strikes in recent memory" (the 1993 World Trade Center bombings, the 1998 Africa embassy bombings, September 11, the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings, and the 2005 London bombings), Peter Bergen and Swati Pandey find the average terrorist to be well educated. While 54 per cent of their sample had attended college, the authors point out that "only 52 per cent of Americans can claim similar academic credentials."

Marc Sageman similarly observes a relatively strong correlation between educational achievement and terrorism. He samples 172 terrorists to find that a majority exhibit above-average educational qualifications with respect to the societies to which they belong.

The counterfactual has also been probed in a Pakistan-specific context. To the extent that the 9/11 Commission Report is correct in terming madrassahs "incubators of violent extremism," in Pakistan they do not operate alone. According to Andrew Coulson, "the presumption that Pakistan's state schools promote tolerance is mistaken.

As pointed out by Pervez Hoodbhoy, Pakistani schools, and not just madrassahs, are churning out fiery zealots, fuelled with a passion for jihad and martyrdom.

The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) tells us that the public school curriculum exposes students to "material that is directly contrary to the goals and values of a progressive, moderate and democratic Pakistan."

Another indication that non-religious schools conduce to militancy emerges from recent work on de-radicalisation. Project Sabawoon, aimed at "the de-radicalisation and de-indoctrination of captured young suicide bombers" in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa houses 84 young radicals, a majority of whom studied in government schools (not madrassahs) prior to their recruitment by militants.

This thing is so bad, we need to spread social awareness in ppl so that these incidents dnt happen. But it shows violent side of our society aswell which need tp be addressed asap.

.
Administration is now blaming the victims per dawn news.
This isnt the first episode (though more viral due to the video) and will not be the last. Victims will be intimidated(due to vast political and religious interests) and whole episode will be swept under the rug

the secular Islamic spirit.
One is that Islam and secularism are names of 2 different systems which are poles apart, entirely different.
If you agree that such values are in fact Islamic, why don't you simply call it 'the Islamic spirit', rather than 'secular'?

Secularism doesn't have a monopoly on fairness. In fact, many injustices have been perpetrated under secular regimes.

I agree with you that what many people consider to be 'secular values' are also supported by Islam, such as justice and non-discrimination. In fact, these were Islamic values before modern secularism even existed. There is no need to use 'secular' as a suffix to everything.

This whole idea of secularism being necessary for a fair society is a fiction sponsored by the West - just because historical circumstances favoured secularism for them doesn't mean we must follow the same path.

Islam also provides a path to a fair society, and that doesn't mean marginalising minority religious groups within our country.

Disagreement does not mean you can kill a person. Debate on religion, ijtehad was blamed by Iqbal for the fall and decline of islamic society.
I think you mean lack of civilised debate on religion, and lack of ijtehad, has led to the decline of Islamic Society.

It is truly sad how we have gone from the age of Ibne Sina, Al Haytham, Razi, and countless others, to this.

Iman, Ittehad, Nazm
was the slogan of Pakistan's creation, and currently we are weak in all three of those key areas.
Yes, even Iman - if they had Iman and truly feared the day of Judgement, they wouldn't be able to do such things.

Islam that I follow teaches love and kindness not the barbarism and ruthlessness of the Wahhabi/Salafi doctrine.
Sir jee please don't fall into the trap of such Sectarianism. You know as well as I do that there is no shortage of Barelvis and Deobandis who support such actions and the blasphemy laws. Labels like 'Wahhabi' are often used by molvis to discredit people with a different opinion - these labels mean nothing now.

I believe in following the Quran and Hadith, and in Ijtihad and civil discussion for religious matters. Apparently, according to some people, this makes me a 'Salafi-Wahhabi', even though I am completely against this blasphemy law and so on.

What is the point of these labels except for creating meaningless divisions and getting brothers to hate brothers?

I wish if KP government could carry neutral investigation of this barbarism.

So far some disturbing development has took place

1. The FIR has named some University employees.

2. The University yesterday issued a notification saying three students including Mashal Khan have been rusticated from the institution over accusation of blasphemy.

The media is reporting that the notification was issued after the killing of Mashal while the university says that it was issued before his killing,.

In both the cases media is questioning IF the notification was issued before the brutal murder of Mashal then does it mean was the NOTIFICATION cause of string hundreds of students for murder of Mashal and two other students?

IF the notification was issued after the murder of Mashal then does it mean the University is covering up for someone ? someone from own staff with a political link?

3. The media also reported that majority of the mob students belonged to a particular ethnic party's student wing.

4. Mashal Khan gave an interview to Khyber News in March wherein he had criticised the university administration and some professors for some issues including corruption in form of having two posts. The interview was in connection with a student strike against such issues in March.

5 Few people have been arrested on the basis of the video.

These developments show that there is alot to the case, This is clearly indicating a planned murder with a political color too.

This is shameful for me being from KPK . Till now I was proudly telling and narrating that KPK did not witness such brutality over accusation of blasphemy but now I do not have a moral right to say that.

At the end I pray that Allah the Merciful may bless the soul of Mashal Khan, give his family the sabr and May Allah guide us the misguided so called thekadar of religion,

Yea highly educated people under the influence of the ideology introduced by zia ul haq.You can find millions like this in pakistan.Tell me something new @haviZsultan

If you follow most of the blasphemy cases registered over the years in Pakistan against Muslims as well as non Muslims and also the brutal murders the history of Pakistan witnessed in the recent years, then you might come to know that it is not the influence of the ideology but misuse of the ideology for settling own scores or grabbing others' property
