ISLAMABAD, Mar 22 (APP): The nation would celebrate Pakistan Day on Wednesday to commemorate Lahore Resolution adopted on the very day in 1940.On this day, the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent pledged to create an independent homeland, where they could live in accordance with their religious and cultural values. The day would dawn with 31 gun salutes in the federal capital Islamabad and 21 gun salutes in provincial capitals. The day would be observed as public holiday in all federal and provincial government offices, banks and private offices.
The national flag will be hoisted on important public and private buildings throughout the country and all Pakistani missions abroad.
This year too, the permanent feature of armed forces parade on Pakistan Day has been cancelled owing to security reasons as well as hectic engagement of troops in the North West Frontier areas of the country to fight against militant forces.
Not only in Pakistan, the embassies would also arrange special events to celebrate Pakistan Day including seminars and musical events.
Qirat contests, debate, essay competitions and mushairas will be arranged by different government departments. Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan would air special programmes on the occasion.
Pakistan National Council of Arts and Lok Virsa also arrange special musical and national songs competition among youths.
As annual event, President confers national awards and medals on outstanding civil and military personalities in recognition of their meritorious services at an investiture ceremony.
Wreaths are also laid at the mausoleums of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Seminars and functions will be organised to pay homage to the Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and poet philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Newspapers will bring out supplements to underscore the significance of the day and the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam, under whose leadership Muslims passed Pakistan Resolution in Lahore in 1940.
On that historical day, a prominent freedom leader Fazl-ul-Haq had moved the historical resolution which has since come to be known as Lahore Resolution or Pakistan Resolution.
Pakistan Day also coincides with adoption of first constitution of Pakistan on March 23, 1956 that transited country to Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
