Amid increasing Chinese assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region, Parrikar, who was on a four-day visit to Japan held talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and was also given a tour on biggest Japanese warship since World War Two, the Izumo, a helicopter carrier.

The Izumo with a crew of 470 sailors is a highly visible example of how Japan is expanding the capability of its military to operate overseas and enters service as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe seeks lawmaker approval to loosen the restraints of Japan’s pacifist post-war constitution.

Development of ” Izumo ” is seen as Japans return to becoming Maritime power in Asia. Izumo primarily developed as Helicopters carrier will be used for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) but can easily also use STOVL F-35B version or OV22 aircrafts which will allow it to play roles of a functional aircraft carrier if need arises, while Japan has not placed any orders for STOVL variant of F-35 yet but it is this ship which are keeping Chinese on guards and Chinese have described it as an “aircraft-carrier in disguise” .

Just a photo opp on the largest Japanese vessel, nothing more. The recent issues with Japan on the civil nuclear deal, as well as the fact that the US-2 (with no proper defence related benefit) is all we get in a political deal, shows where we stand with Japan today. We may share the same defence related aims and thanks to US pressure, Japan might be open to the nuclear deal and some defence cooperation, but it's far below of the levels we have with Russia, Israel or Europe. In fact, it might be easier and better for our industry, if we improve the ties to S.Korea as a prime Asian defence related partner. Be it for procurements or joint developments, they can be the choice with a better prospect for India.

True, he is representing India and this is a formal/semi-formal occasion.

There is no dress code for the defence minister. He is the one who decides the dress code for others :coffee:

Kaju is a phony, but Parrikar is the real deal. He has always dressed this way and he IS and will continue to remain the defence minister of India, irrespective of how he dresses.

This is how the "father of the nation" dressed in public,

You're so imbecile that you don't even know that Gandhi was never officially a representative of India. And you're talking about dress codes in India 70 years back?
Parikkar is the damn defense minister, what he wears is a big deal. There is a dress code in parliament too. Trouser, shirt and floaters combination has never been a part of attire for a minister visiting a foreign country. Check the dress codes of the Indian Parliament for more info.

Japan is too disciplined and rigid .
They would seldom bent rules to accommodate an ally .

we should look forward to Japan as a technological , economical partner ...any hope for substantial military cop-operation out of place unless there is drastic change in Sino-Japanese relations.

Unlike Kujliwal who is a phony, Parriker sir leads the most simple life despite being a highly successful individual. Please dont be so judgmental without checking first. Even when he was CM, he used to wear a simple shirt and pant. His house is a small two bedroom in Panaji. There is nothing wrong his dress code.

Gandhi was never the official representative of India ? :cheesy:

When was the last time you read History ? What did you think he was doing at the Round Table Conference in London ?

He was very much the Representative of India and he met the King of England in that dress.

Now provide a link that shows the "dress code for Parliament". I am waiting for that.

From now on Trouser, shirt and floater is part of the attire for a minister visiting a foreign country. Get it ? And you know why ? because the Defence Minister just decided that. See how that works ?

Um no Gandhi was not the representative of India. He was from the INC. There was no "india" then to represent. Moreover the only representative from "India" (sic) , British India would have been the Governor-General of India :|

I see you get your History(with a capital 'H' :| ) from movies.

He should have worn shoes at least. Floaters are too casual for such an occasion.
