Man lost 5 daughters in gambling bet in Pakistan

By Farzana Shah

November 23

Once again women fall victim to male chauvinism in Pakistan when a man sold his innocent small daughters as an item for gambling in Sindh Province of Pakistan.

A man Dhani Bakhsh in Qambar area of Shahdadkot Larkana (Sindh) put his five daughters namely Tabasum (3-years-old), Rashda (4-year-old), Rubina (10-year-old), Shahbana(8-year-old), and Kanwal (7-year-old) on gambling bet against Rs20,000, Rs55,000, Rs30,000, Rs32,000 and Rs40,000 respectively.

The man lost the five innocent small girls in gambling at different points and also reportedly wed Rubina and Shabana to his gambler fellows on the condition that the small girls will remain at home until attain puberty.

Few days back the accused Dhani Bakhsh once again tried to sell his three-year-old Tabasum for gambling however his wife, Tajal resisted and tried to hold back her daughter upon which the accused attacked Tajal with an axe and injured her badly. He later divorced her and fled the scene.

The uncle of the unfortunate girls who is brother of the Ms Tajal has registered a case with police against brother-in-law, Dhani Bakhsh Khaskehli and his seven brothers. The police have arrested two accused in the case however the prime accused Dhani Bakhsh has managed his escape. The local police chief has expressed ignorance about the incident of sale of girls for gambling however he said if they want any protection police will provide them.

On the other hand the mother of the girls Tajal held a press conference at Larkana Press Club and accused the police of non-cooperation.
She blamed that Police was not supporting her neither interested in arresting her accused husband.

Women in many parts of Pakistan subjected to violence, discrimination and other criminal acts though the government and civil society organisations are working for protection of women rights but violation is still continued.

:( Zaki you can imagine how difficult it is for me or other females to report such incidents and above all its more painful to feel helpless and doing not enough to get world support against such incidents.

not only Pakistan but unfortunately the region and women are still the victim in the world one way or the other.
Why women are weaker in the world over the centuries.ever given a thought about it????

1.Is it male chauvinism to blame for?
2. Is it religion/social/political order to blame for?
3.Is it women themselves to be blamed for their plight?(Stockholm syndrome)

Ancient time?????It still goes on in 21st century and guess what these are not such 1-2 scattered incidents. These social practices and many others like such are embedded deep into the societies over centuries. You need iron clad laws to shake the deep rooted practices.

Far too little is being done for women's right all over the world. It doesn't carry the political cache of such movements as the free tibet movement or the Sudan but it affects many more people around the world everyday than any other form of oppression.

More needs to be done.

Weaker???? I dont believe in this word.

Coming to your questions i would say its overall attitude of the people (irrespective of gender).

This is really disgusting. C'mon, those 5 little angels, how could a father sell them? The silver lining, I see, the mother standing up to the moron and holding a press conference. Brave woman! All women should do that.
