GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- One man was killed and another injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, locals said.

Eyewitnesses told Ma'an that Israeli warplanes fired at a motorcycle west of Gaza City. Haitham al-Mishal, 25, was killed in the attack, and another unidentified man was injured, medical official Ashraf al-Qidra told Ma'an.

Both men were evacuated to al-Shifa hospital.

Al-Mishal was from the ash-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza and was a security guard at al-Shifa hospital, al-Qidra said.

He suffered severe shrapnel wounds to his body in the attack, the Gaza health official added.

Witnesses told Ma'an that Israeli military vehicles briefly entered the ash-Shujaiyeh area east of Gaza City following the airstrike, with reports of gunfire.

Israel's army said in a statement that "a global Jihad-affiliated terrorist has been targeted by an IAF aircraft in the northern Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire towards Israel."

The Israeli airstrike in Gaza targeted a man suspected of taking part in the Eilat attack earlier this month, the Israeli military said.
Israel Defense Forces said it targeted 24-year-old Hithem Ziad Ibrahim Masshal in the strike, and that "a direct hit was confirmed."
But Ashraf Al Qudra, spokesman for the Palestinian health minister in Gaza, said the strike killed a 29-year-old hospital security officer riding on a motorbike.
Another person riding on the bike was seriously wounded, medics said.
Netanyahu said militant rocket attacks, like the one that prompted the Israeli airstrike, aren't acceptable and won't be tolerated.
"We will act, and are acting, in order to defend Israeli citizens," he said Tuesday.
