I bet ya the oil companies try to buy the patent so no one can use it, except them of course

Excellent Idea. Hope that works in the real world.

This is nothing new and it works similarly to petroleum cracking. The technology is not mature and the energy costs are prohibitive.

cracking is the process whereby complex organic molecules such as kerogens or heavy hydrocarbons are broken down into simpler molecules such as light hydrocarbons, by the breaking of carbon-carbon bonds in the precursors

Why not surprised given that plastic and rubber are by-product of petroleum.

If we convert plastic into oil then that means we are not recycling them. Oil burned adds to green house emission. While this is a positive achievement we should also invest in cleaner energy

Oh yes. And may be the carbon footprint this process leaves behind may be bigger than a simple adequate disposal of all plastic garbage.

I'm not poopooing the idea, it has an important place just like regular recycling but I don't like his idea of making portable machines. Chemical processes like this are much much much more efficient if you scale up reactions and use large facilities. Plastics should be taken from landfills and brought to the processing machines instead of portable processing machines.

Also it would be very hard to educate third world people the difference between thermal plastics and thermoset plastics. The latter being completely unsuitable for thermal cracking.

this is brilliant.. and one of the most important vidoes of the 21st century.. it sad that people are overlooking the true potential of what this machine on a massive scale is capable of doing.

Oh really.... why not than ask for a carbon foot print limit law.
Guess who will be the looser? Definitely not Pakistan...
States flying most of the airplanes, regular rocket launchings, lot of industry and less efficient vehicles... shall worry.
If this machine exist it can be a blessing for Pakistan because rich countries dump their trash in third world countries like Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and African nations but we have no place to dump ours.

:what: He's talking about the relative benefits of the machine.

Worse actually.. i suggest you learn about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.. i'll link it here

He spoke exactly of carbon foot print.

Yes carbon emission is a consideration for evaluating machinery. This is especially important for machines intended to help the environment. This isn't political.

Yes but why shall an Indian down play the invention by scaring us on its carbon emissions.
Who in the world care about carbon foot print and zero legislation in this regard clearly tells us international regulations are made only for self interests.

I think you're reading too much into that comment

This was his first comment
