Man gets three-month jail for second marriage

What do you suppose it is?

IF you cant do justice marry only one....

i am still Stuck at the thought that only people able to be just with orphans can marry.

the number of wheels question is later in the mathematical heirarchy.

It won't work. :p :p You are a Pakistani and can't escape that law. Irrespective since article 1 (2) states that "it applies to whole of pakistan and to all Muslim citizens of Pakistan wherever they may be. Whether she is from azad Kashmir or Afghanistan you would need your nikahnama to be the Pakistani one where a Pakistani nikah registrar will sign it. :p :p
Technically I have not nikkah in Pakistan yet :). It has not been registered in Pakistan. Only in Sweden and USA.

Fair enough point. Let me give you the context...

Surah An-Nisa (4) , verses 1-6

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
1st verse talks about mates (in general)...setting the context.

And give to the orphans their properties and do not substitute the defective [of your own] for the good [of theirs]. And do not consume their properties into your own. Indeed, that is ever a great sin.
2nd verse Dont cheat the orphans [esp if you are the care taker]

And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].
3rd verse: Talks about Orphan girls then also about women in general...

And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.
4th verse = Haq mehr

And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allah has made a means of sustenance for you, but provide for them with it and clothe them and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.
Terrible direct translation...it literally means those who are not able to control/ understand/ value the property...care taker

And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age. Then if you perceive in them sound judgement, release their property to them. And do not consume it excessively and quickly, [anticipating] that they will grow up. And whoever, [when acting as guardian], is self-sufficient should refrain [from taking a fee]; and whoever is poor - let him take according to what is acceptable. Then when you release their property to them, bring witnesses upon them. And sufficient is Allah as Accountant.
This is the orphan marriages...

In Pakistan men form 51% of the population and women 48.76%

I dont see how long term population could be anything other than 1 man 1 wife

The man's first wife did not give him the mandatory permission he requires to contract a second marriage. ─ AFP/File

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate in Cantonment Courts has sentenced a man to three-month jail and imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on him for contracting second marriage without mandatory permission of first wife.

Rabia Younas filed a complaint through a counsel pleading that her husband Shoaib Zahid contracted second marriage without obtaining her consent required under section 6 of Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961. The counsel asked the court to punish the man under the law for committing a crime. He also produced witnesses and documentary evidence to prove the offence of the respondent.

The magistrate, Kashif Abbas, observed that verbal and documentary evidence presented by the complainant established the offence the respondent committed. Therefore, the magistrate handed down three-month imprisonment to the respondent and Rs5,000 fine.

3 months are no problem. But first wife is surely getting a divorce.

Da sanga azadi de ? @RealNapster

Time to look for loopholes in existing law :D

I am disappointed. The least punishment for this should be 6 months jail and atleast 50,000 fine. The first wife literally block all her ways back to home when she filled the case. And now she will think all that for just 3 month jail (which he can avoid by applying for bail and pay what ? 10-20K ??) and 5000 fine ??? We seriously need to modify/rewrite our laws based on 2019. Fine for pulling chain can not remain Rs. 50-100 anymore. Its been 100 years now.
