Malik stars as Pakistan post mammoth 375

Welcome to Dawn.com's live coverage of the first One-Day International between Pakistan and Zimbabwe from Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

After two nail-biting finishes in the Twenty20 series marking the return of international cricket to Pakistan, the hosts and Zimbabwe move to the three-match one-day series aiming to build for the future.

Pakistan's one-day captain Azhar Ali, who did not feature in the Twenty20s, said the huge excitement surrounding the tour had helped the team forget its disastrous 3-0 ODI drubbing in Bangladesh last month.

The Greenshirts have persisted with spinning all-rounder Shoaib Malik and paceman Mohammad Sami, both of whom featured in the Twenty20s, in the one-day squad after a break of two and three years respectively.

For Zimbabwe, the series represents another shot at ruining Pakistan's homecoming party after they threatened to close out both Twenty20s but eventually lost in crucial passages of play at the death.

375?? :o:

I can understand a high score against zimbabwe, but 375-3 at close is staggering Pakistan.

.
Why do you guys have a stadium named on Gadaffi? :O Theres plenty of worthwhile people from Pakistan like Abdus Salam, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Imran Khan.

Good for Pakistan. I think we should play a series soon. The hype and excitement will be greater than that of world cup lol

After this series they should be sent to BD for a revenge series ..... lol

Ghaddafi had always been a great friend of pakistan.
Lets him continue with some respect after his tortorous death.

Well done to Zimbabwe for making it to over 320 runs against Pakistani bowling attack. Despite the slow start and early wickets.

I'll give it maybe 3-4 months more before this team really starts to settle, but it will be back to it's strength soon enough.
There were members here in despair over the teams performance, but I always said it was expected, weakest team in history that was.

Now, Hafeez is back in, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail and Sarfaraz can all bat. And Riaz is poised to become an even bigger name. The guy is always nothing short of brutal. A few more months needed to get settled, to get the young players in and a solid line up with no more changes. After that we can go back to challenging the likes of Australia, SA, India, let alone BD.

Good to see that.
In sports as in Science we should welcome competition ....... would love to see a Pakistani break a sachin's record (and would love to see that new record broken by an Indian in turn :p: ).
What's next on Pak's calander?

The men in green. Making a comeback from a shambolic series against BD. It was expected against a weaker team, but Zimbabwe are playing well too.

Good to see that.

No idea what's next after Zimbabwe, and yes, competition in science and sports is golden. Though, Pakistan seems not to produce batsman like Sachin and Dravid, two of my fave, with Dravid being my favourite test batsman of all time. Pakistan on the other hand produces pacers, the likes of which only the Aussies can compete with. Kohli, Amla and AB are the batsman of today, but proper test batsman like Dravid aren't being produced anymore.

We ought to be very supportive of team Zimbabwe, playing on our home turf, despite the behaviour of others. And then providing real competition and class cricket in return.
