Srinagar, Feb 26: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Yasin Malik Thursday accused Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of resorting to “psychological coercion” and compelling Kashmiris to vote in large numbers in the Assembly elections.
“I must give credit to BJP by turning themselves into devil and creating fear among Kashmiri people that their presence in the valley will be a threat to their existence which eventually resulted in high voter turnout,” Malik said.
“It was a well planned strategy by BJP and they should be appreciated for defeating us strategically and intellectually,” he said while addressing a press conference.
Malik said with the help of journalists, columnists and preachers, BJP adopted a “scientific policy” threatening people that it would take 44 Assembly seats if PDP doesn’t win. “So to keep BJP out, people voted for PDP and now both the parties are going to form a government.”
The JKLF chief said all separatist leaders and activists were arrested and put behind the bars till the elections were over. “It provided these political parties an open platform to infuse their false ideas into the minds of people,” he said.
“The naive Kashmiri people should learn from this election. How these political parties have brainwashed them and in the end succeeded in forming the government,” he added.
Referring to the high voter turnout in elections despite the boycott call given separatist groups, Malik said: “I admit we were defeated in the elections but we will rise again. And when they will be defeated at our hands they will not get a second chance.”
The JKLF chief lashed out at Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for entering into an alliance with BJP to form government in J&K.
Malik accused PDP founder and patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed of imposing AFSPA in the valley and “making 90 percent amendments” in Article 370. “It was Mufti who imposed AFSPA and amended Article 370 during his tenure as union home minister in 1990. And now he is crying over it,” he said.
“PDP is a political party created by agencies which came into existence after NC lost its ground due to incumbency factor. After NC become irrelevant, Indian agencies created PDP and Mufti was given a new task to pitch for disbanding Task Force and safeguarding Article 370,” he added.
Malik said by raising the issues of Article 370, PDP and BJP were trying to divert attention from Kashmir issue “by making it State versus Centre issue”.
“Mufti has no right to plead for human rights violations in Kashmir as his present house at Gupkar Road used to be the biggest interrogation centre in the valley,” he added.
Over the last two decades, Malik said: “Thousands of youth were killed in Mufti’s current residence, the infamous ‘Papa II’. I wonder how Mufti and his family members could sleep in such a slaughter house.”
He said as chief minister and head of the unified command, Mufti killed top Hizbul Mujahideen commanders on the pretext of “healing touch” policy.
“It was Mufti who turned every police station across Kashmir into Task Force Camp after claiming of disbanding them. Today J&K police participates in all major operations in collaboration with paramilitary forces,” Malik said.
He warned of strong resentment if the government makes any changes to the existing state subject laws in Jammu and Kashmir while terming government formation and Article 370 ‘non-issues’.
Terming any kind of dialogue between New Delhi and Kashmiri leadership as waste of time, Malik said it is nothing but a “photo opportunity” and that separatists don’t want to be treated like toys in the hands of New Delhi.
Challenging the mainstream political parties, Malik said he is ready to participate in “private elections” in the state to show his strength.
“I challenge them all, let them form a coalition and be at one end. And if I lose I will quit the politics,” he said.
Replying to a question about unity among separatist leaders, Malik said he is ready for any such move if approached in this regard.
