bdnews24.com

Maldives has expressed its interest to purchase patrol boats from Bangladesh for its coastguards.

Its National Defence Force chief Maj Gen Ahmed Shiyam informed this to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while paying a courtesy call on her at Jatiya Sangsad Office on Tuesday evening.

He also praised the Khulna Shipyard which he visited recently, the prime minister’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri told reporters.

Ahmed Shiyam told the prime minister that his country was interested to buy offshore patrol boats built at Khulna Shipyard, Shameem added.

He also lauded Bangladeshis in Maldives for contributing to local economy.

The Maldives defence force chief thanked Bangladesh for sending drinking water and water treatment plants in December when his country faced acute water crisis.

In February 5 2015 a delegation from NDF visited GRSE in Kolkatato enquire about the Baracudda Class OPV of which one has already been delivered to Mauritius and three more are under construction for Vietnam and Mauritius . Negotiations between Goa Shipyard and Mozambique for 3 90m OPVs are at an advanced stage.

The Maldivian delegation was highly impressed by the capabilities of the GRSE OPV.

Khulna Shipyard are planning to build Chinese type 056 corvettes for the BN, maybe they could also build similar ships for export too. At $70m to $100m each depending on systems integrated they are relatively cheap, and building them in Bangladesh will reduce costs further too, a type 056 corvette for around $55m to $80m should be a good sell.

well, good luck to you.... nice to know that you're considering us as your prime competitor....

Well Western Marine is already building a OPV for Kenya. Let's see if Khulna Shipyard can get a contract to build a O p v for Maldives to.
Bangladeshi shipyards have already built quite a few ships for the African market.... apart from OPV for Kenya, Western Marine also built catamaran passenger ferry for Tanzania.... they're currently building vehicle ferry for Uganda.... Ananda Shipyard built catamaran ferry, landing craft and vehicle ferry for Mozambique.... and in the Middle-East, FMC got order from Oman to build dredgers.... thats a nice going....
