Even if Kra canal is finished, no other countries in region who can providing first rate port services and first rate investment regulation in shipping industries like Singapore. Thailand with their archaic regulation and Vietnam with their so-so services can't match Singapore.
Not to mention, Singapore for decades had been chosen as the central hub for Shipping lane and central trade at South East Asia region, been backed by many Nation with powerful military and intensive lobbys from various mega corporation around the world. The tag of Israel from the East is just not for nothing
I'm not implying that Singapore will collapse just by opening of the canal.. They're economy is more diversified now and will be able to withstand the effect on shipping somewhat
But the very success of Singapore was based on it's strategic location at the tip of the Malacca straits, So with the canal coming in to operation, Circumnavigating the straits will not be necessary.. Saves time and money, And it's a bit treacherous,
So in the long run Singapore will definitely loose out on it, Especially if the proposed infrastructure port projects materialize along indochina
