Malala Yousafzai addresses a press conference in Islamabad upon her return to the country after more than five years away. ─ DawnNewsTV
"I have dreamed of returning to Pakistan for the past five years," said a visibly emotional Malala Yousafzai in her speech at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Thursday.
"I continued my education there [in the United Kingdom], but I have always wanted to move freely in Pakistan," said the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, who returned to Pakistan after more than five years late Wednesday night. "I want to invest in the education of children."
"Pakistan women should be empowered," she added.
The 20-year-old Oxford University student is currently in Pakistan on a four-day visit. She arrived on Wednesday night accompanied by her father Ziauddin, Farah Mohamed and Amirobyn Thompson after more than five years away from the country.
Yousafzai, who belongs to Swat, has been living in the UK after surviving a Taliban attack in 2012, which necessitated her departure abroad for medical treatment.
PM Abbasi, who also addressed the gathering after Yousafzai, said he is happy that a daughter of the nation has returned to her homeland.
"You were a 13-year-old girl when you left and now you are the most famous citizen of the country. The entire world gave you honour and respect and Pakistan will [also]," he said.
"It is your home. Now you are not an ordinary citizen, your security is our responsibility."
"After your departure, we have fought a difficult war in which 6,500 soldiers, 25,000 policemen, paramilitary forces and civilians embraced martyrdom. Terrorism has been eliminated and still, we are fighting a war against terrorism. Set aside what the world says about us, Pakistan is fighting the largest war against terror. More than 200,000 soldiers are engaged in the war," he said.
"Welcome home, Malala," he concluded.
Yousafzai was targeted by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban in a gun attack in 2012 when she was on her way home in a school van after taking an exam. She sustained a bullet injury to her head and was shifted from Pakistan to a hospital in Birmingham in a precarious condition. Two other girls also sustained gunshot wounds in the attack.
The attack on the schoolgirls received widespread criticism at the national and international levels as Yousafzai received sympathy and support from across the world.
Responding to the condemnation, the TTP denounced Malala Yousafzai, compelling her to stay back in the UK due to security concerns.
After her recovery, Yousafzai announced launching a movement for the promotion of girls’ education. She visited a number of countries as an official guest where she was warmly welcomed and given an official protocol and reception.
During a visit to Canada last year, she was provided an opportunity to address the country’s parliament, and in 2017, the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres selected Yousafzai to be a UN messenger of peace, the highest honour bestowed by the UN chief on a global citizen.
Earlier today, Yousafzai called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday at his office, where she was to attend the special function marking her achievements as an activist for girls education.
Sources told DawnNewsTV that Yousafzai shared her future plans with the premier during their meeting, and that PM Abbasi assured her of his complete support in connection with the educational projects she wanted to work on.
The premier also assured her of the provision of security in case she wants to visit anywhere in the country. The two also discussed prevailing situation in the country.
PML-N leader Marvi Memon, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb and State Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Anusha Rahman also attended the meeting.

He is a socialist through and through, so much so that he even went to a Polytechnic during university days to avoid the association that redbrick universities have with elitism.
Truth be told, Malala is a brand, there are many, many deserving people in Pakistan that should share the spotlight, but if brand Malala works, then hey who am I an outsider to say anything.

What does that mean?? Is he talking of Britain exiting NATO??
So why isn't he internationally vocal about the NATO wars against Libya and Syria??
so much so that he even went to a Polytechnic during university days to avoid the association that redbrick universities have with elitism.
I will say that he was part of what is called Controlled Opposition, a cultural rebel like the Beatles, who is socialist as far as labor unions but not beyond.
Why isn't he in the Communist Party of Great Britain, or another visibly socialist movement??
By the way, why did you mention him in the first place??
She might be a brand but she and Kailash Sathyarhti ( her co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize ) are what South Asia requires.

ISLAMABAD: The youngest Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai, landed in Islamabad in the wee hours of Thursday, after spending nearly six years abroad.
Although there was no official confirmation, reports suggested that Malala, her immediate family, and officials of the Malala Foundation flew into Islamabad from Dubai and landed Islamabad airport at 1:30am. They had taken a separate flight from Birmingham to Dubai.

According to reports, Malala is scheduled to stay in Pakistan until April 2. She is expected to meet Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi today (Thursday). Reportedly, an event has also been organised to welcome Malala at the Prime Minister Office.
During her stay in Pakistan, Malala, now 20, is scheduled to discuss the prospects of promoting education in less-developed areas of the country with Pakistani authorities, officials said. Her visit was kept secret due to security reasons, according to sources.

It is still not clear whether Malala would visit her hometown of Swat, where she was shot in the head in October 2012 by Taliban gunmen for actively supporting girls’ right to education.
Malala was on her way home in a school van when she and her class fellows were shot. She was hit in the head, but survived the attack and was airlifted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi, where she had several surgeries before she was flown to the UK for advanced treatment.
The attack had left Malala with a serious brain injury and she struggled to speak for several months after the assault.
In 2014, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions to and struggle for promoting education for children. She was 17-year at the time — the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. She shared the prize with Kailash Satyarthi, a children’s rights activist from India.

Yes, socialists are not in government seats in many places like they were prior to 1990, but there still are socialists in Cuba, Venezuela, Libya ( despite the confusion there ), Syria, Russia, China, IIndia, Pakistan, even Afghanistan, DPRK, Italy etc. Red and Green are not dead yet.
Yes, Internationalism is not fashionable presently, but I have hopes for it by 2020 and after.

Do yoi know she used to voice her opinions before she got attacked? They raided her school bus and asked who Malala was before they attacked her.
She opened a school in her district and funds it through her charity, free schooling for the children of that school. She’s never said a word against Pakistan in her life.

Why aren't the other girls in the van which also got seriously injured aren't treated like Malala why aren't they studying in Oxford why weren't they offered nationality
A 12 year old Malala doing charity for a school and opened a school and the terrorists asked who Malala was they shot her in the head from say 10 feet the bullet slipped though the neck to the shoulder
