Make in India: US offers to jointly manufacture fighter jets with India

This whole procurement debacle could have been avoided if you opted for the Super Bug - The American's are reliable supplier (assuming you don't anger them too much), they deliver on time and their systems are the some of the best around with great support programs and after-market care.

I get it, the EFT and Rafale are better than the Super Hornet, I agree, but what good is a better aircraft if you can't even solve the procurement problem?

Had you opted for this, you'd have had it years ago. Instead you'll be offering tenders, RFPs and trials for years more, and still not have anything to show for it.

:tsk:India's defense procurement policies actually make me a bit unwell, it's that bad.
And if you like the Super Hornet, maybe you can get yourselves a Growler or two to go along with it:
If you put your faith in the American's, they'll open up their defense industry even more and allow you things they'd have refused in the past.

Thanks but No Thanks.
Americans are best handled a little gingerly...... and at a bit of an arm's length. India knows that well from its own experience; but much more than that...... seeing the state of some guys in the neighborhood. :P

No rush.... the Americans will slowly put even more on the table; India will then have to handle all that with the required discrimination. Right now, the Americans are also slowly waking upto the fact that they need other Countries (who are rational and capable) on their side. Gone are the days that they could walk around looking for client-states.

There was a time when CENTCOM could decide which 'Domino' (i.e. Govt/Leader) would fall and when; in some part of the World. Now CENTCOM has to come to social media to drum up support. Times change.

.
Go for Latest F16s and form a JV in developing AMCA technologies !!

If USA wants to develop close ties with India, They should not hesitate to transfer some of the technologies to India. There should be no double speak.

Ah! The good old days. America of Obama era is so boring.

No wonder the Chinese and Russians are running rings around them

Boeing is going to close their F 18 E/F production line in US by 2017...They won't mind shifting that line to India ..

Y go for something that no relevancy in near future. We need to go for 21st Century design.

Like how much ??? Less than 35 million ? :azn:
Then set up the assembly line in India in the pvt sector and then sell those birds to PAF and the Afghan AF..... :P

sir, I can't tell you that
I just quoted saurav jha's tweet

In my opinion he is one of the better defence reporter and a very pro indigenous defence program supporter.
He thinks it is to kill tejas program for good.

We have su 30 MKI a twin engine fighter which has good capabilities, we also have mig 29 !
We need a cheap interceptor/dog fighter to fill the gap until LCA mark 2 arrives say 5 to 6 years.
