NEW DELHI: The government has conceptualised five industrial and economic corridors and all are at different stages of implementation, Parliament was informed today.

The corridors are - Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC); Bengaluru- Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC); Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC); Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC).

" BMEC, VCIC and AKIC are in the initial stages of implementation whereas master planning for all the three nodes in CBIC and all nodes except for 'Dadri Noida Ghaziabad' investment region under DMIC have been completed," Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

She said various trunk infrastructure projects like development of roads, drainage, sewage, potable water, water treatment, sewage treatment plant are being developed under DMIC.

Replying to a separate question, the minister said the 'Make-in-India' programme represents an attitudinal shift in how India relates to investors - not as a permit-issuing authority, but as a true business partner.

"Twenty-five industry related Ministries are working on sector-specific targets, which have been identified by them after detailed discussion with various stakeholders in the National Workshop held on December 29, 2014. Each Ministry has identified action plan for the next one year and three years," she added.

The 'Make-in-India' initiative aims at promoting India as an investment destination and establishing the country as a global hub for manufacturing design and innovation.

The initiative also looks at providing a congenial environment to the business community so that they can devote their effort, resources and energy to productive work.

"A number of steps have been taken by the government to improve ease of doing business. Rules and procedures have been simplified and a number of products have been taken off licensing requirements," she said.

. . .
Is there nothing going to Kochi port? If not, why not ?

.
Chennai- Coimbatore corridor should be pursued by our state govt. I am really frustrated at the ADMK zealots nowadays

South & West India should finance thier own projects, east north & NE should get priority central funding

I am sorry, but Kerala shouldnt be given anything
Keralites wont allow thermal power plants in their state, have the audacity to oppose Kudankulam Power Plant in TN, when they are allocated more than 500W from central pool, and now opposing the Theni LHC Lab near Kerala border for politics.

And also Mullaiperiaar. I mean you guys are getting the power for virtually having no problems in Kerala state. They should face their own set of problems.

But Kerala has a well educated work force suitable for skilled manufacturing jobs, so long as they are not allowed to get unionized. Communism is a bane of Kerala.

What workforce? People are getting educated in Kerala to go to gulf. Its the Gulf Money that is helping Kerala withstand financially. Not industries. Communism apart they have destroyed industrialization in Kerala.

Well educated graduates are not going to gulf, but to US and other places. The ones that go are from ITI, polytechnic and other low skilled ones....

But now with IT parks lots of people are returning back.

Yes industrial sector is not that big except in some districts and it wont be growing any more due to limitations in space and high value for land.

the kerala government doesnot whant any thing from modi, untill and unless madam ji comes to power, and when she comes to power the commis will be ruling kerala, the cycle thus goes on, when every thing comes the unions will spoil it so finally kerala has no hopes.

A few months back I was in Kochi and saw a news item on TV, one of the Congress ministers was giving an interview and he was saying that great opportunities are opening up for Kerala women because more Arabic women are going to work so there is more need for ayahs and domestic helpers in the gulf. This was his big " opportunity" for Malayalee women !!!!

I thought everyone would be as shocked as I was to hear it, but no, all the mallus were nodding their heads and saying "yes, very good for labor class".

Unless this mind set changes and people realize that they can create quality jobs at home if they fix the politics, nothing will change.
