Escalation on the eastern borders is actually the last thing the Pakistani security establishment needed, given all the internal and external challenges they are already facing.
If Pakistan denies its involvement, I will believe that at least the top army leadership was not involved because they would not be so stupid as to provoke India when their country is facing economic catastrophe, surging insurgencies in two provinces, hostility from TTA and at a time when domestic support for Pak Army is at an all time low. Nevertheless, this will give hawks in Delhi the upper hand and Pakistan can expect continued punishment, international isolation and a war of attrition that will ultimately wear Pakistan down. India can afford to keep the border with Pakistan hot for a thousand years, but Pakistan will not survive it.
