The vaccine is not only about preventing dying/getting sick, but also that the Virus does not spread from healthy young people to people with weak immune system. The vaccine is also very important to remove the Virus ASAP from the world so that it doesnt evolve into a (more) dangerous Virus.

Imagine if we could do the same for even the less dangerous influenzavirus, then it would save a lot of lifes and reduce medical Costs and damage to the economy.

You cannot "remove" a virus, there are still cases of bubonic plague today. And viruses mutate all the time which is why we haven't wiped out the common cold. Coronaviruses will always be around until we reach some sort of technological singularity where we can control our body at a molecular level with like nanomachines or something idk.

There is very little evidence of asymptomatic spread, best study places it at 0.7% of asymptomatic individuals. Wuhan study tracked 300 asymptomatic carriers and found no evidence of close-contact transmission.

Official: Iran-Made Coronavirus Vaccine Nearly 90% Effective

“If everything goes well and once the human trial phases are accomplished, mass-production of the coronavirus vaccine will take about four to five months before it is supplied to the public,” Jalili said in an interview with the Persian-language Jam-e Jam newspaper on Monday.

“Domestically-produced vaccines have common platforms with vaccines from other countries that have entered the human trial phase. Similar statistical data and numerical platforms tested in other countries show that the vaccine is up to 90% efficient in bringing about immunity to the coronavirus,” he added.

Meantime, Jalili said that Iran will wait until the end of human trial phase to precisely assess the effectiveness of the home-made vaccine.

“I believe the vaccine we have developed can be resistant to the virus mutation. The statistical information we have emphasizes this point,” he added.

Head of Iran’s Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Mohammad Mokhber announced on Sunday that the home-made coronavirus vaccine would go to the human trial phase in the next two or three days.

“The first injection will be carried out in the next two or three days,” Mokhber said.

He added that the Iran-made coronavirus vaccine has been developed under the latest global standards and will have the least side effects.

“We will develop a monthly production capacity of 1.5mln doses of vaccine within the next 40 days and this capacity will increase to 12mln doses in 6 months and we will be able to export the vaccine to foreign states after meeting the country’s needs,” Mokhber said.

"This vaccine's human trial has different phases and it will be injected to 56 people in the first phase," Minoo Mohraz said.

She explained that the vaccine is given twice to the volunteer people, and said, "The first vaccine injected produces antibodies in the body after a while, but the main antibody that creates immunity is produced after the second injection."

Mohraz noted that the Iranian vaccine company's actions have been registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Without FDA permission, a new phase of the vaccine would not have been possible.

"If the test is successful and gets a manufacturing license from the FDA, it looks like the vaccine will enter the domestic market by late spring," the official stated.

She pointed out that until the domestic vaccine is made, it is necessary to prepare imported vaccines, and the relevant authorities are working hard to achieve this, she noted.

Recalling that two of the vaccines have been approved up to now, Mohraz said, "We are having some trouble buying vaccines due to US sanctions, but the government is following up."

She stressed that vaccines should now be available for high-risk groups and medical staff, such as nurses and physicians who deal directly with patients.

Also, earlier this month, Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said that the country’s home-made coronavirus vaccine will pass the human trial phase and will be prepared for mass-production in the spring.

“We will put the Iranian coronavirus vaccine on the table next spring and we are pursuing its development every moment,” Namaki said, addressing a meeting in the Eastern province of South Khorassan.

Great news: First Iranian participant has got vaccinated

Truly a historic moment for Iran and the Iranian nation. We're back. We will not rest anymore. Our country will regain it's deserved status in the world. Congratulations to everyone

The treatment, dubbed Coviran, is a so-called inactivated vaccine, meaning that it is made of a coronavirus that has been weakened or killed by chemicals, similar to how polio immunizations are made. Leading Western vaccines, like the shot made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, use newer, less-proven technology to target the coronavirus’ spike protein using RNA.

First participant - daughter of the company owner- was successfully injected with the vaccine

Second participant received his vaccine.

He's a General Physician and an executive in EIKO (Shifa-Pharmed father Institution) "I'm very proud, Iran has a long history of vaccine production and we're very confident about this vaccine's lack of serious side-effects" "inshallah our people will go back to normal life, soon"

So Iran will be receiving 16.8 million doses through the UN program. Since most Covid-19 vaccines require 2 shots, does that mean those 16 million doses will be enough for 8 million people or 16 million people ? By one dose do they mean 2 shots ?

Anyways, by late spring, so May, Iran will be distributing its own vaccine. That seems a little late doesn't it ?

I believe that they should try and speed up this process as much as possible. Remember none of the vaccines which are currently being used in the west went through the entire scientific vetting process, which should have taken years. Also, the Russians still haven't released the vital details regarding their trials.

At the end of the day, when it comes to extremely vulnerable people in the population, one has to weigh the risk of taking the vaccine to the risk of dying from Covid-19. The most vulnerable, at risk people in Iranian society should definitely receive this sooner than later.

Iran has already gone through 3 waves and each subsequent wave is more destructive than the previous. Iran really can't afford to go through a much larger and more devastating 4th wave.

Out of hardship leaps of advancements are made. Just as @Sineva outlined in the missile thread, missile bombardment on our cities ultimately led us mastering this technology! Out people have again suffered greatly because of COVID-19, however none of them in vain, the hardship has put us in this path of controlling and mastering our own destiny. Thank god we are soon completely independent!

as Rahbar said, best way to nullify sanctions is to become independent! Mashallah to all people involved in fighting COVID and finding cures and vaccines!

Ma-sha-llah! :smart:

I found the answer to my own question. The 16 million doses, which will be purchased through COVAX, the UN program, will be enough for 8 million people, since each person requires 2 doses.

I'm not sure how long it would take to vaccinate 8 million people in Iran, but since the 2nd dose is distributed a few weeks after the first, the entire process should take atleast a month or two I'm guessing ?

With that, Iran also has the option to purchase another batch of vaccines. Within a few months the Iranian made vaccines should start rolling out. I'm also hearing that the Iranian vaccines are NOT going to be free ?

Hopefully the price will be extremely cheap and affordable, at cost and there should be some initiative to distribute free vaccine to the poorest, most vulnerable sectors of society.
