i personally feel that india to go for joint venture with russian for s400 or s500 type defense system that was worlds best known system and with that india become more secure from BMs

Kolkata class destroyers have 64 Baraks

Shivaliks have 32 Baraks and 24 Russian SA-N-12

This is along with CIWS point defence weapons. Which are guns that shoot down missiles, planes etc =]

What you should be asking is what can destroy a carrier fleet ?

where there is an aircraft carrier , there is also a fleet including submarine escorts , surrounding it.

Most if not all enemy ships , will be detected by long range radar and intercepted by the carrier air-wings .

You get close enough to launch an attack , the carrier escorts will fire back , and you still have to deal with the air wing. The carrier fleets will also employ their defensive systems.

At this point really , it comes down to you beating the fleets defences.

You either have to slip past them or punch through them only then can you take a shot at the carrier.

the only way to counter a carrier with decent odd's is pure brute force.

while people may have delusions of sending a submarines to do that job , the odds of them succeeding may be very possible but are still fairly slim. Certainly not enough to gamble your whole national security over.

at the end of the day , you want to beat a carrier , you need to punch through the defences of the fleet. While simultaneously fending of an air-attack , or a similar missile barrage.

The chinese claim to have developed a missile, but it is assisted by land based radar. Still spec but U never know what they can come up with.

They can't afford that.

Sir, Indian Navy has 155 vessels in the inventory. Its carrier battle group can easily have:

1 Aircraft carrier with 15-25 aircraft
3 destroyers
4 frigates
6 missile boats
1 Amphibian Boat

That makes the carrier group a total of 15 vessels. India can easily and HAS been affording the same.

India plans to add 80 new vessels along with its 2 aircraft carrier in the next 15 years.

Yes its worth every penny for us to have an aircraft carrier.

Indian Navy is big enough for it security concerns.
