Tata Harrier SUV Launched In India; Prices Start At ₹ 12.69 lakh

Tata Motors has launched the new Harrier SUV in India and prices for the car start at ₹ 12.69 lakh and go all the way up to ₹ 16.25 lakh, all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai. The Harrier is the company's fourth new launch in the country in FY 2018-19 and it's a big one for sure. The Harrier is available in 4 variants - XE, XM, XT, and XZ and will be available only with the diesel variant. The variant wise pricing is given below.

The new Tata Harrier is the new flagship offering from Tata Motors with the new Land Rover derived Omega Arc platform. The Tata Harrier is 4598 mm long, 1894 mm wide and 1706 mm high. Wheelbase on the new Harrier is 2741 mm while the ground clearance of the SUV comes in at 205 mm.

At the front, the Tata Harrier gets a split headlamp cluster with high mounted Daytime running lights and a large grille with typically Tata esque hexagonal design language. The actual headlamps themselves are set lower in the bumper and have a projector setup along with a separate foglamp cluster underneath it too. And to round off the front end, the Tata Harrier gets a silver skid plate.
In profile the Tata Harrier is larger than the XUV 500 and gets a set of plastic claddings on the lower half and wheel arches along with either a set of 16-inch steel wheels or these 17-inch alloy wheels. The most distinct feature around the side though is that C-pillar with the floating roof design language.
Move to the rear and the Tata Harrier gets a set of thin tail lamps with LED treatment that is joined by a gloss black panel. Just like the front bumper, you also have a silver skid plate at the rear.

The new Tata Harrier is quite equipped right from the base variant offering features like - projector headlamps, dual function daytime running lights which also function as turn indicators, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and rear parking sensors. As for the interior and cabin features, the Harrier comes with offerings like - power steering, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering, and all four power windows. On the safety front, the feature list includes - dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.

The top-end XZ also comes with gizmos like - a larger 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with high-resolution display, nine JBL speakers with amplifier and tuned acoustics, and fully-digital 7-inch TFT instrument cluster.

The Tata Harrier has a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor, that Tata motors calls Kryotec and is essentially the detuned version of what is available in the Jeep Compass. The engine makes 138 bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Harrier also gets three driving modes, Eco, City and Sport.


The SUV also comes with driver assistant functions like - Terrain Response Modes (Norman, Rough, Wet), hill hold and descent assist, rollover mitigation, corner stability control, electronic stability programme, and electronic traction control.

Hyundai Kona Electric Will Be Locally Manufactured In India

Hyundai Kona Electric will be locally manufactured in India and the Korean carmaker will be investing Rs. 7000 crores in its Chennai manufacturing facility a major part of it will go into the development of a new assembly for this upcoming electric crossover.

Hyundai has confirmed that it will be manufacturing its upcoming Kona electric locally in India at its Chennai plant. The Korean carmaker is geared up to launch the Hyundai Kona electric in the second half of this year and is planning to start the production around the same time. The latest development is the upshot of the company's plans to invest ₹ 7000 crore in India a part of which will go towards the development of an assembly line for the Kona Electric.

Speaking to the media, B C Datta, V P- Corporate Affairs, Hyundai Motor India LTD said, "This time we're spending ₹ 7000 crore in the fourth phase of the investment taking it to a total of ₹ 23,900 crore in Tamil Nadu. We've already employed around 1.5 employs in terms of direct and indirect employees and we are likely to employ 1000 direct employs and 500 employs in allied activities. In addition to electric, we also have other models and powertrains and have plans to introduce a few other models. Kona is our new offering in the Indian market and supports government's initiative towards electric vehicles. In the middle of 2019, we're planning to introduce it."

The main purpose of producing the Kona Electric locally is to keep the pricing aggressive in a bid to make it a viable offering for the prospective customers. Hyundai had earlier shared with carandbike that it wants to keep the Kona comparatively affordable for car buyers. Hyundai will channel the rest of the investment in the manufacturing of other car models and development of new technologies and machinery. Moreover, the investment will add 1500 more jobs in India.

Globally, the Kona Electric is offered in two iterations- one which is equipped with a 100 kW motor and the other with a 150 kW motor. While the former motor produces 134 bhp, the latter churns out 201 bhp. Both the motors are mated to an electronic transmission. Moreover, it is equipped with upmarket features like an 8.0-inch infotainment system which supports smartphone connectivity, auto-headlamps rain sensing wipers and more.
