Tata launches Xenon Pick-up

Tata Motors has launched a commercial version of the Xenon called the Xenon pick-up. This new version, aimed at commercial usage comes in a single-cab as well as a dual-cab variant.

The dual-cab variant is powered by a 3.0-litre Dicor motor that churns out 115bhp, while the single-cab variant comes with a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine which is good for 72bhp. It comes with an engine immobilizer, side intrusion beams and a collapsible steering wheel column. The dual-cab version comes with an air conditioner, power windows, central locking and limited slip differential.

The Tata Xenon Pick-up is priced at Rs 5.44 lakh for the single-cab variant and Rs. 6.34 lakh for the dual-cab variant (ex-showroom, Thane). It comes with a warranty of 3,00,000km or 3 years, whichever is earlier.


Nice option for a comerical operator to go for a better looking vehicle:)

Tata's haloed Land Rover buy justifies revolutionary expectations, big letdown otherwise.
They need that to take on the MM 500, late already.

Tata Motors today launched the Tata Xenon pick-up, offering both single cab and dual cab versions, with best-in-class looks, operating economics and fuel efficiency. The Tata Xenon pick-up is suitable for a wide range of commercial applications.

Announcing the launch of the Tata Xenon pick-up, Ravi Pisharody, executive director, commercial vehicles, Tata Motors, said, “The pick-up segment is growing rapidly and we see this trend continuing. With the launch of the Tata Xenon pick-up, we are strengthening our existing pick-up portfolio. The vehicles have several best-in-class features, which are a strong proposition, and with our existing products like the Tata Super Ace, Tata RX pick-up and the new Tata Xenon pick-up range, we are well placed in the market to take on any challenges.”

The workhorses are matched with commensurate power and they come with 3.0 litre common rail and turbo direct-injection engine options, which deliver a top speed of 120 kmph with peak power of 72hp in the single cab and 115hp in the dual cab, with a peak torque of 223nm and 300nm respectively. The Tata Xenon pick-up delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency because of its scientifically engineered drive train. The Tata Xenon's engines, with their flat torque characteristics, the overdrive gearbox, radial tyres and aerodynamic shape, contribute to its high fuel efficiency. With a gradeability of 32 percent, the vehicle will also prove reliable on hilly terrains. The Tata Xenon pick-up comes with a warranty of three lakh kms or three years, whichever is earlier, further affirming Tata Motors’ confidence in the abilities of the offering.

The Tata Xenon pick-up is versatile, with payload options to suit varied business requirements. The Tata Xenon single cab variant offers the longest-in-class body length of 8’4“. Additional utility features like convenient loading height, three-side drop load body bring ease to day-to-day operations. The vehicle comes with two-stage semi-elliptical leaf in the rear suspension, which ensures good load carrying ability, with better ride-comfort and handling. The Tata Xenon single cab also comes equipped with power-steering, adjustable steering column and cushioned bucket seats in the front, with adjustable lumbar support. The pick-up also has conveniently placed utility spaces, clutch footrest and a mobile charging point.

The dual cab variant comes with fully-loaded features like HVAC, power windows, central locking, seats with lumbar support and high-end cab trims as standard fitment. The dual cab is equipped with limited slip differential, which resists wheel spin on gravel or muddy roads, thereby offering better control and making the vehicle ideal for off-track usage. The stylised load body further enhances design appeal. The vehicle is targeted for applications involving both crew and cargo movement in a comfortable and safe manner.

The vehicle has been designed to meet global safety standards. Variants of the model offer safety features like the unique three-layered body construction, crumple zones, a collapsible steering column, central locking, retractable seat-belts and side intrusion beams which will protect passengers in the event of a side impact collision.

The vehicle is available in four colour options - Arizona Blue, Mineral Red, Arctic Silver, Arctic White.

The Tata Xenon pick-up prices (ex-showroom Thane) start at Rs5.44 lakh for the single cab and Rs6.34 lakh for the dual cab variant.

Tata Motors beefs up its pick-up portfolio with the Tata Xenon pick-up, which already comprises the Tata RX pick-up in the large pick-up segment and the Tata Super Ace, in the small pick-up segment. MUMBAI: Volkswagen may
consider launching a utility
vehicle in India as the German
car giant looks to expand its
portfolio, President and MD
Gerry Dorizas has said.
"Different growth segments of
multi-purpose vehicles or
sports utility vehicles and
small cars are the part of
vision we have (for India),"
Dorizas said on Tuesday. "We
have to take small strides," he added.
He said Volkswagen will develop its India
business further, but only after putting the
fundamental structure in place.
Global rivals Renault and Maruti Suzuki have
managed to generate sizeable volumes from
their recently launched SUVs. The segment is
also growing rapidly at a time when demand
other type of vehicles is sluggish. Dorizas says
the current focus is to build a strong foundation
on the existing products, dealers, sales & after
sales service.
Volkswagen India has been dabbling with the
idea of bringing in the premium SUV 'Tiguan'
those shares its underpinnings with the recently
launched Audi Q3. The company has also
globally showcased a couple of utility vehicles
concept called "Volkswagen space up! Concept"
and "Bulli Concept" which may spawn utility
vehicles for Volkswagen to compete with Ford
Ecosport, Renault Duster and the Maruti Ertiga in
the future.
Volkswagen India, one of the late entrants in the
fast growing passenger car markets in the
world, initially attracted a good response to its
premium hatchback Polo and sedan Vento, but
could not sustain the momentum in 2012. After
doubling sales in 2010 and 2011, VW India's
numbers in the first half of 2012 declined 3.4
pc.
"I have total trust on the management and our
board of directors, I think they have a listening
head, but we are still in discussion, we are still
creating plans. There are a lot of things, which
are under development, I think there will be a
time when we would be able to share that with
you," Dorizas said. He acknowledged that
margin pressure will continue to remain.
"Pressure on the margins is an on going thing. It
is all changing, we all have to be in touch with
changes, we told our dealers, we are team, we
have to go all the way and discuss with them in
a difficult market condition and adapt ourselves
to changes." To cut Polo, Vento prices
Volkswagen Tuesday said it will cut prices of the
high-end variants of its Polo and Vento sedans
and add a host of new features to boost sales. It
will cut prices of the both diesel and petrol
variants of Polo by up to Rs 40,000 and of the
Vento by Rs 20,000. The Polo highline petrol will
now come for Rs 584,400 as against Rs 624,409
(ex-showroom New Delhi). The Polo diesel
variant price has been reduced to Rs 694,400
from Rs 736,407, ex-showroom Delhi. "The
introduction of new features in Polo and Vento
will further excite the customers as both the
carlines will offer much more value now... ,"
said Arvind Saxena, managing director,
Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

M&M to launch small SUV on September 20 | Reuters

(Reuters) - Mahindra & Mahindra, India's biggest utility vehicle manufacturer, will finalise its Russia plan in 4-6 months and is in talks with Russian distributors, a top company executive said.

Launching Mahindra vehicles in Russia will take over two years, Pawan Goenka, president of its automotive and farm equipment sectors, said on Thursday.

The utility vehicle manufacturer also plans to launch a small SUV in India on September 20, he added.

Mahindra, the world's largest tractor maker, is the flagship of the $14.4 billion Mahindra Group and the owner of South Korean car maker Ssangyong Motor.

Toyota to invest Rs 900 cr to increase production in India

Japanese car giant Toyota will be investing Rs 900 crore in India to increase production capacity at its Bangalore facility by March next year, a top company official said today.

The company, which is present in India through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group, will be increasing the capacity of its plant in Bangalore to 3.1 lakh units per annum by March next year from 2.1 lakh units at present.

"We will invest Rs 900 crore to expand the capacity of our Bangalore plant by March next year. The production capacity will increase to 3.1 lakh annually from the 2.1 lakh units at present," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Vice-Chairman Vikram Kirloskar told reporters here, on the sidelines of the annual convention of SIAM or the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

He added that most of these investments and increase in production would be for hiking the capacity of Innova and Etios.

On the company's plans to set up a diesel engine manufacturing plant, TKM Managing Director Hiroshi Nakagawa said: "It is under discussion and we have not taken any decision yet. It will take time".

Last month, the company had said it was unable to convince its Japanese parent to invest on a diesel engine manufacturing plant in India due of the lack of clarity in pricing policy of the fuel in the country.

In April this year, TKM is understood to have put forward a proposal to set up the plant after the Budget for 2012-13 spared diesel vehicles from additional taxes.

There has been a demand to increase taxes of diesel passenger vehicles from different quarters to prevent usage of the subsidised fuel for "luxury". However, the automobile industry has been asking the government to deregulate diesel price in line with petrol.
