It's the smallest hull among modern systems. K9 is much bigger and PzH 2000 is a huge behemoth of a vehicle

Another possibility is that by making it smaller, that means whites "can't operate" in them due to the tiny size, which will force the US army/NATO to put non-white personnel in them. More fuel, more engine, more armor, more everything. Maybe extra crew member to operate a remote controlled .50 cal, maybe something else.

You already have a logistics chain that's configured for M1 Abrams so why not?
