What's new

Lt-General Thorat's 1962 China warning fell on deaf ears.

IMO, this rating system is flawed and superfluous. If somebody violates forum rules, s/he should be given an infraction and the post deleted, which used to be the earlier practice. Racial abuse is quite clearly against forum rules.

Personally I don't mind swearing, since I am not a prude. But racial abuse in trying to make a point is pathetic.

This is how Webmaster wants it.

The purpose of this system was to make it easier for the administrators to see who is contributing and who is trolling.

You can try and change his mind if you wish, many others have tried. But this is the way he wants it.

Yes, I know. I was only stating my opinion. I disagree with this system, but it's his forum, so...

Nehru was not military minded, he was not looking for, neither expecting a military solution to that problem, and he totally misjudged the Chinese intention believing in their false assurances, he has his share of unforgivable blunders, but that doesn't take away the blame from China for unilaterally attacking a 'friendly' country who stood by them in their trying times, and souring the relationship between the two countries which was otherwise good for thousands of years.

India was not a friendly country to China by any means. Sure Nehru said "bhai bhai" (notice it was only said in Hindi, not in Chinese) and then he immediately back stabbed us, by hosting our largest separatist group in 1959, and then starting a war with us in 1962. Both, while we were collapsing from the worst ever famine in our history, the Great leap forward.

It was China who was bending over backwards, offering territorial concessions so generous that modern nationalists would consider it treason:

BBC News - India climbdown may help China border dispute

By Subir Bhaumik
Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh
17 April 2012

India has been reluctant to part with any portion of the disputed territory since the 1950s.

It rejected a swap offer made by China's former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai in 1960, asking India to recognise China's control of Aksai Chin in the west as a quid pro quo for China's recognition of the McMahon line.

After rejecting that offer, India initiated a "forward policy" to control the disputed territories in the Himalayas.

-------------

It was China that was fighting against two enemy superpowers, it was China that was collapsing from starvation.

That's why we made so many territorial concessions during that period, out of weakness and desperation.

But Nehru rejected ANY compromise. Instead, he went for his Forward policy, and started a war against us.

Even after we prevailed, we voluntarily withdrew from AP to give Nehru another chance to accept Zhou Enlai's ridiculously generous offer of a mutual recognition of each other's territories.

@Chinese-Dragon

True except for the last line.

The Indo-China conflict pretty much coincided with the more prolific Cuban missile crisis of 1962. You might say its mere coincidence, but there is strong belief here that this "coincidence" was deliberate.

It prevented the U.S. from supporting India immediately with military equipment, and pretty much ensured that USSR made no moves against Chinese interests.

In that respect, even your retreat was not exactly out of goodwill, China simply wanted to avoid getting locked down into an intense (and expectedly long drawn) counter-attack that was being planned by the I.A. with American support.

The Indian plans called for some 45 divisions supported by loaned aircraft from the US launching theater level operations against the PLA forces facing us. With just 3-4 PLA divisions being actually involved in the fight against India, the conclusion of such a massive imbalance was clear for the Chinese high command. And even more so, because the PLA simply couldn't mobilize that number of troops even if they wanted.

Any such India action, if successful, would most definitely threaten Chinese control over Tibet itself. Thus the seemingly voluntary retreat.

@DRAY no use bhai, lets leave our megaton,HGV han guy with his nonsense. It won't change a fact.Ar bhai,Chinese der ar ki bolar ache??Amader nijer deshbasirao to amader bipokhye bolche ekhane.

@janon ,You are so quick to accuse me of racism and asking our Chinese dude why didn't he report me!!Where were you sir when that same dude had made far worse racial remarks against us,and as if that was not enough,he went as far away as to tell other members to do the same and thanked each and everyone of them??Where were you then sire??If you didn't protest him at that time, then you've got no right to protest me either.

At first I was quite amazed to see your comment but then, this is India after all.

@Chinese-Dragon

@janon ,you know what we call guys like you??Ghar shatru Bivison. You are so quick to accuse me of racism and asking our Chinese dude why didn't he report me!!Where were you sir when that same dude had made far worse racial remarks against us,and as if that was not enough,he went as far away as to tell other members to do the same and thanked each and everyone of them??Where were you then sire??If you didn't protest him at that time, then you've got no right to protest me either.

Actually I did protest to @Chinese-Dragon a couple of days back, when he thanked a racist post against Indians. I told him that I did not expect such behaviour from him. I can give you the link to that thread if you want, but I request you to take my word for it and spare me the trouble.

I am not aware of any racist posts he has himself made, but if he has, then I wholeheartedly condemn that as well. Please show me links to any such posts, and I will gladly report those to the mods. I have been reporting quite a lot of people for racism over the past few days.

As far as I know, that person has not himself made any racist remarks, but he has thanked a few racist posts, and I have called him out on that.

I don't know what "ghar shatru bivison" means, so I would be grateful if you tell me that. I know that 'Ghar' is home, 'shatru' is enemy. I don't know what 'bivison' means, or what language that is.

Don't apologize to me, apologize to the people you insulted.

Could you tell me the post number and give a link to that thread? I can't believe that CD would say something like that, but if he did, I will definitely report him.

Anyway it is good that you are willing to apologize for your mistake - that's a rare but commendable quality. @Chinese-Dragon - I suggest that you remove the negative rating, since he is willing to admit his mistake and apologize for it. Up to you, of course.

No need to report him,it happened due to a misunderstanding probably due to the lack of his grip on the language.I'm just pissed off because he didn't apologise even when the other member had given an explanation for his post.So how can I respect him or his nationality if he doesn't do the same??

And about my remark, you could call it judgemental or generalisation but racist!!Hardly. But I'll delete that part non the less.

Actually I'm not pissed off at all.

If that was your intent, you will have to try much harder.

Well I suggest that we follow Wikipedia's rule about assuming good faith, and give people the benefit of doubt. Usually, it is quite easy to know when somebody is a racist, and when somebody misunderstands something. In any case, disrespect the poster who you think is racist - don't disrespect the nationality. Do you think we ought to judge all Bangladeshis by their representatives on PDF?

I'll tell you why I think your post was racism. This is my own view only. You called him a flat nosed han or something of the sort solely to counter his point. That is racism, and more than that, it is logically unsound - his appearance or race has no bearing on the validity of his point. Even if he has legs on his head and arms on his ***, here we ought to judge and counter his posts, not his appearance - however ugly or handsome he may be.

I don't really mind statements about race, like saying that east asians have thin eyes or that Indians are darker than Europeans or that Africans have curly hair - these are all factually true. But none of these should serve as an argument - I mean, don't bring that in simply to disagree with something somebody says. (I was myself berated by a few people two days back, including by chinese dragon for a racist joke I made about Chinese people's eyes.)

Anyway, since you apologized for your remark, I am willing to think well of you; hopefully the "hans" will do so too.

In Chinese we don't add an "s" to signify plurals.

So it's just "Han". For both singular and plural.

I'm not sure how he even knows I am an ethnic Han in any case.

Wow, if only the whole world was so forgiving on the one hand, and so willing to accept their mistakes on the other! This thread has restored my faith in humanity.:smitten:

What is your ethnicity, if you don't mind sharing? Also, the majority of Hong Kongers are ethnically Han, right?

My ancestry is Hakka. It is a subgroup of Han Chinese, originally from North China.

Hong Kongers are pretty much all Han Chinese, originating from various regions around China. My family was one of the first to arrive in Hong Kong several centuries ago, so we are considered "native" Hong Kongers.

Han are the overwhelming majority in terms of Chinese ethnicity. Though there is considerable diversity amongst the various subgroups of Han Chinese.

I told you and I'm telling you again sir,my comment wasn't meant to be a "racist" one,but then I did meant to be judgemental which I knew it to be wrong even while writing that comment.I never made that remark
"solely to counter his point" but just to settle the scores.
