Look into India’s upcoming Indigenous QRSAMS (Quick Reaction, Surface to Air Missile)

ASTRA MK-1 LAUNCHED FROM GROUND LAUNCHER

Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamic Limited (BDL) which is one of India’s leading manufacturer of ammunition and missile systems has tied up with DRDO and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) to jointly co-develop QR-SAM (Quick Reaction, Surface to Air Missile) to meet demands of Indian Army .

QR-SAM which is currently in development will see first developmental trials in next two or three years and will be completely indigenous missile system which will come with canister launchers and will be highly mobile air defence system with better range than Akash SAM Systems.

QR-SAM weapon system will be a quick reaction, all weather, network-centric capable of search on the move, track on move and fire on short halts while engaging multiple targets at ranges of about 30 km with two vehicle configuration for Area Air Defence.

QR-SAM will be truck-mounted and Missile firing units will be fitted with a 360° rotatable, electro-mechanically operated, turret-based launch unit. According to highly reliable sources close to idrw.org Missile configuration has been finalized and system design to has been completed to commence actual work on the missile.

idrw.org in previous had reported that Indigenously developed Astra Air-to-Air missiles in its first series of developmental trials were fired from Ground-based launchers and had successfully hit Electronic target which in a way also validated flight characters of the missile system making a case for ground-based air defence systems which could ultimately lead to Ground-based Astra air defence system.

While DRDO,BEL, and BDL have not confirmed if QR-SAM will be based on Ground-based Astra air defence system but it is likely to borrow a lot of components from Astra and other existing missile systems .

I did find it weird when a ground launch was done for Astra. I get it now.

At least MoD and DRDO and etc. finally realised and accepted the scenario specific requirement of ARMY. Though in a wrong/negative tune, the same was repeatedly reported by media. AKASH is not for 360 coverage, neither it is required to be highly mobile.. nor it needed to have a very quick response time. But army - specially the advanced column inside or around hostile territory, need a QR SAM.

This was in development before any of the retarded media said that the IA is done with Akash, blah, blah, blah. Before Akash was even inducted into the army. They knew about their requirement before anyone started spewing crap on the media.

The IA's QR-SAM requirement has existed for a LONG time, when the IA said recently they were looking at such options the media immediately created this false drama about "IA says they don't want Akash". It's like saying the C-130 is in service, what's the need for the An-32 or C-295?

But this nuanced reality is either too difficult for these clowns to comprehend or it is not in their interests to tell the TRUTH.

As I said in another thread, they are basically trying to create a SPYDER like system (taking an A2A missile and devloping an advanced SAM from it) but with one major draw back

The DRDO does not have any active seeking IR missile like the Python-V as the SPYDER system has both the Derby and Python-V to have a greater employment envelope and kill propobility so whilst the Astra could replace the Derby in a SPYDER-like system, there is nothing right now in India to replace the Python-V that would make this system less capable than the SYPDER.
