I don't think any reasonable person would expect China win these medal counts against USA this year, as China still has a few obstacles to overcome in sports.

However as you mention, in 2004 China only had 32 Gold and total of 63 medals. I am neglecting 2008 since China has the home advantange, and this year they are improved well over past olympics.

I guess the secret recipiet will be a well funded comprehensive national sports program. This requests a well managed implantation and execution at the very local level, because that is where you can dig up the grassroot talents for each sports and develop their skills through a well established training facilities and through many regional and national level competitions.

China, the Americans, and several others need to stop being so damn insecure, just have fun, compete cleanly, and whether you win or lose, be graceful & demonstrate good sportsmanship. enough of this foolish jingoism & chest-beating, it's not what the Olympic spirit is all about.

USA and China is doing exceptionall , absolutely , i just checked china before 2000 and they have improved sooooo muchh . in 1988 they had 5 gold medals , in 1996 they had 16.

Cmon man, its kind of justified for Americans to gloat considering the hollering we've had to endure from certain posters while China was winning, and the complaining we've had to endure from certain posters when China was behind, but there is no need to rub it in. We will eventually face them again in 2016, and hopefully the Chinese on here who have been at the forefront of these displays will have calmed down by then. It will likely be a closer contest than today's

There have been some Chinese who have been real professional about the whole thing as well. They've shown it is possible to root for your country and not make it antagonistic.

I can't wait for the 2016 Olympics. We need to spend as much money as possible to win both medal counts in 2016. I'm sick and tired of western media rubbing it in to us. We have fallen behind in gymnastics, shooting, weightlifting. We need to start getting more gold from swimming, cycling, rowing, athletics.

We need to allocate more funding to all sports, build new facilities, bring in foreign coaches. This is unacceptable to lose to those imperialist white pigs. There must be a thorough review of our performance and it must be addressed before 2016. We should be getting over 50-60 golds and 120+ overall with the talent pool we have.

Questions must be asked why there was such a massive drop off from 2008, was it retirements, poor form, injuries, lack of funding, poor talent identification, etc.
Losing to the US is the worst feeling. American braggarts are all over the media now.

There is a score to settle in 2016!
