Lockheed Martin In Talks To Sell 6 More Super Hercules C-130J To India

Lockheed Martin is in talks with the Indian Air Force to sell an additional six Super Hercules C-130J military transport planes, a senior executive at the company's India unit said Saturday.

"There was an option in the original request for additional six Super Hercules C-130J and we are in dialogue with the Indian Air Force for the addition of those six," Orville Prins, Lockheed's vice president, business development, in charge of India, told Dow Jones Newswires.

The company will deliver the first Hercules plane to the Indian Air Force by the end of this year, Prins said."We are slightly ahead of the schedule to deliver these planes," Prins said.

" Under our contract we had to deliver the first plane by first quarter of 2011. It'll probably be delivered by late this year, maybe by December."

what about the Globemaster Deal ?

I believe a formal request has been sent to the US govt. for a deal through FMS route. Also I believe the congress may have been notified though I am not certain of the latter.

The news of additional C-130J's would be great news indeed. It would really help special forces not just for external conflicts but also for NSG etc when necesssary. I hope india goes for the option of 8 more P-8I's by next year along with the additional C-130's.

.
I guess along with 8 more P8Is there were another option for 3, can anybody clarify that?
