Is it possible for Pakistan to buy the blue prints for Saab 2000 along with any remaining production line machinery and then build the aircraft at PAC?
This would greatly reduce the price, with export potential and can be used by the military for transport and what not.

The general airframe is not a problem, the engine is. Saab would never sell such blueprints either. It's giving away property for nothing.

What Pakistan need is an R&D process in the country. Technology moves fast, you can develop something but it becomes outdated soon.

And your idea is not farfetched Pakistan has a huge market for such a plane for use in civilian airline,vip transport, AWACS martine surveillance.
Especially the civilian demand with skyrocket with the increase of tourism more pane would be needed to ferry people to remote areas such as GB,chitral, remote areas of sindh and Baluchistan.

The fact they become obsolete is from prespective of large scale sale but for custom sales to one customer they may still serve a purpose


Here is Bombardier , Global 5000 Business Jet , can certainly serve role as Recon plane
or Marine Surveilance role

These could also serve as awacs, maritine patrol, vip and especially civil transport especially in the future with the increase of the tourism industry and investment in far flung areas there willnbe more demand for such aircraft.

  • The issue is not acquiring the production line but the technology transfer.
  • Then the issue is does this older platform still fulfills the need of the hour technologically.
  • The issue of service life comes up as well.

SAAB was considered to be ages ahead of its time however today it is more inline. unfortunately SAAB decided to end production in support of ATR something similar to what Fokker had done earlier.

Today if SAAB does relaunch it would have better engines and support of new materials however these will never be available if Pakistan considered to produce on these lines. This only leaves Pakistan to endeavour on an indigenous product for which she lacks funding and technical expertise.

To be honest after working with Radar tech for 40-50 Year Pakistan should be able to make their own version of basic Marine Survailence craft with combination of general Small planes purchased in open market

For Pakistan to even justify re-opening production it needs to show that there's enough adoption in the domestic market to make it worthwhile for everyone involved. If that's done, then I think there's way of working with Saab along with our own private sector to set-up a jointly-owned Saab 2000 production line in Pakistan.

Pakistan is still getting few more Awacs from Saab but in order to revive the production line PIA should have been involved for domestic orders for Saab Jets for regional flights more fuel efficient

Pakistan has ambitions for a commercial aircraft with 30 seating capacity so the idea of acquiring rights for the SAAB 2000 don't seem too far fetched since same approach was taken for SAAB Safari/MFI17 Mushak aircraft.

Indeed and due to lower wages of workers and engineers in Pakistan, the overall price can be reduced which will increase chances of export. Way I see it, work can be split between the two countries with SAAB providing critical components e.g. engines and Pakistan building the rest of the aircraft. Final assembly in Pakistan.

To buy a/c propeller is non issue, there are many suppliers.
If Pakistan can afford (which it can't) to put up an assembly line, that should also be non issue.

Actually Pakistan has quite much requirement of small aircrafts.
There are plenty of local airports, which can be connected by ATR types.
If i was policy maker, i would enforce all local flights to be propeller a/c instead of jet engine. Karachi - Islamabad - Lahore an exception.

it is understandable that a country will be reluctant to share its product that is produced after years of hard work and many hundred millions in research and development. they might allow us assembly if we make a good business proposition which is beneficial to them as well and doesn't compromise their business model, sales and competitive edge.

I'd rather see Pakistan reviving the Buffalo.
A line for a DCH-5 XP with a power plant
rated for altitude would be so useful all over
Desi and that -Stan/Jans plateau up North.

Biz jets are better platforms ( Falcon 50 for ex. )
for Maritime Patrol / AEW and props are best
for the
transport duties unless it's strategic.

One more advantage of the De Havilland
Canada is that it could follow its ancestor
and be named Azikheli in honor of Swat
where chances are it will be used & useful.
