Life and death countdown begins for Asia Bibi

I agree...we are not yet in a stage where our society can be called as complete one. We have issues in our society which i never ever shy of admitting it...But here the context is different. We are not talking about a random mob or criminal killing some one else rather discussing about a Court is punishing some woman because she says something about religion which other person do not like. At least in India, Court does not provide such kind of order
yesterday a man was killed by police for online beef message

Again, either you do not understand my statement or do not want to understand it...It is your issue...

As i told, as a human being, we are yet to be a civilised society..We are improving and we admit our mistakes. These kind of incidents are shameful reflection of us and that needs to be corrected.

But the bigger picture is being killed in police custody is not rule of law. Court and rule of law will initiate a proceeding against the police officer. But no where you will be seen that if someone days against any relion, then our Court orders death penalty..If your court really orders death penalty for this issue, then i do not see how your country is different than Arab countries who stones the live people in a barbaric manner...I always with impression that Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan and BD are the Muslim nations who are doing lot of reforms withing their society to not to follow those inhuman rules of Arab nations..But it seems like your nation is not just different than Arabs.

Everything has limits including mercy. Yes RASOOL SAW was sent as mercy but RASOOL SAW also fought wars in fact 25 to 27 of them and 80 others he sent in which some Sahabi was leading Muslims. Those who commit blasphemy are themselves doing a crime which is punishable by death. Some enemies don't understand language of mercy and sympathy that is why you have Jails in entire world
When Prophet himself stopped Jabrael from destroying the city who threw stones and insults at him when he didn't ordered the killing of that old women i don't think he will ever order someone to be killed just because he/she insulted him many people have made their own versions of Islam that's why we've jahils and will continue to do so and

This is what Quran says about this issue:

“We have spared you those who ridicule you” [15:95]

In essence, the Qur'an is telling us that when it specifically comes to the issue of mocking the Prophet [SAW], which is exactly the issue that we are dealing with today. Don't take matters in your own hands, rather, God will take care of those who mock the Prophet. < This is what i was trying to say in my op in this thread. @Zibago http://muslimmatters.org/2012/09/16/39567/

After order of Jihad came those who commit blasphemy were executed. Mr these are few examples two of Badr prisoners were also executed. When Muslims were returning back to Madinah with prisoners RASOOL SAW two of those guys among prisoners who used to throw garbage and camel intestine when RASOOL SAW used to be in Makkah and offering salah in Kaba. They used to throw all this stuff and than laugh at it. Many times Hazrat Fatima RA came and removed that crap from RASOOL SAW. When RASOOL SAW saw them than he ordered Hazrat Ali RA to execute them and he did. Hazrat UMAR RA killed a person whose only fault was he didn't accepted RASOOL SAW decision and went to Hazrat Abu Bakar RA first in hope he would change the decision which he obviously refused than he made the blunder of going to Hazrat UMAR RA he told that munafiq to sit he went inside brought his sword and killed the guy on the spot. That munafiq had land dispute with a Jew and RASOOL SAW gave decision in favor of jew.

you do not see any such behavior anywhere in the muslim world EXCEPT in rural Pakistan and bd because of backward indian culture's influence. However, slowly but surely, it is dying out.
Yes this malady is specific to this sub continent but surprizingly the Indian muslims dont practice this at all. When I was young we did come across some vegetarian caste hindus who would not like to eat what we cooked or use our utensils for the reason that we cooked and ate non-veg in our homes but they treated their own family members in the same manner and separated utensils for cooking and eating non veg but not anymore.
I hope the govt. and even madrassas should take cognizance of this fact and act.

Well you just said it, indian muslims themselves are a minority and therefore suffer from the same hindu culture that effects our rural areas minus those in the kpk province. Pakhtun Pakistanis, even the tribal ones, don't suffer from this hindu like infection and are well known for their hospitality towards anyone. But they have cultural infections of their own resulting from fundamentalism. Work in progress, slowly but surely, we as a nation are defeating these infections one by one. Unfortunately india seems to running in the opposite direction.

No
sir as for asia bibi, they are enough evidence to say that she said something wrong..

i still support what Governor salman Taseer was saying that in south Punjab there is feudal system and there some people are using blasphemy law as a weapon to decimate their opponent.

improvement in law is what he was saying... not the abandoning.
No sir that was not the case ... He was of the view that blasphemy law should not be there ...

Why do you think India is running in opposite direction. Despite so many diversities our outlook remains progressive.

Individual is no authority to decide who needs to be punished, let the state come up with her judgement .

I am no religious scholar but what little I know of Islam is that killing other then two reasons i.e. avenge a murder or killing someone who is creating "Fasad", is not allowed. However, forgiveness is better. These are the thoughts of Holy Quran.

Secondly, Holy Prophet PBUH was sent as a Rehmat not only for Muslims but for Universe. He in his life never cursed, what to talk of killing for causing hurt or insult to him. There was an instance where he was insulted and Hazrat Umar drew his sword to kill the blasphemer. He stopped him from doing so.

I understand our emotional attachment to the Prophet PBUH, but it does not mean that we perform such acts which he himself did not like or permit. The woman who used to throw trash on him every day, the people who threw stones on him. Were they executed?

She was asked to fetch water, but the Muslim women objected, saying that as a non-Muslim she was unfit to touch the water bowl.

I fail to understand where does blasphemy comes in here.

U.N should take Action against Pakistan due to violations of Human rights.

Why should UN intervene in our affairs, they should first question the superpower which has looted, plundered and violated all limits of HR in ME.

Supreme Court adjourns hearing of Asia Bibi case
AFP | NASIR IQBAL — UPDATED 24 MINUTES AGO

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned a hearing of the final appeal against the execution of Asia Bibi, accused for blasphemy.

Police and troops had been stationed across Islamabad as the apex court readied to hear the appeal of Bibi who has been on death row since 2010.

One of the three-judge bench, Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman, told the court he had to recuse himself, claiming a conflict of interest.

"I was a part of the bench that was hearing the case of Salman Taseer, and this case is related to that," he told the court. A letter was written to the chief justice to appoint another judge to the bench.

The SC did not immediately set a new date for Bibi's appeal.

In 2011, former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, who spoke out in support of Bibi, was gunned down in broad daylight in Islamabad. His assassin Mumtaz Qadri was executed earlier in 2016 after the court found him guilty of murder. Justice Rehman was chief justice on the Islamabad High Court which heard Qadri's appeal in 2011.

The allegations against Bibi date back to June 2009, when she was labouring in a field and a row broke out with some Muslim women she was working with.

Asia Bibi, accused of insulting the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) during an argument with a Muslim woman over a bowl of water, was convicted and sentenced to death in 2010 despite her advocates maintaining her innocence and insisting the accusers held grudges against her.

She was asked to fetch water, but the Muslim women objected, saying that as a non-Muslim she was unfit to touch the water bowl.

The women went to a local cleric and accused Bibi of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), a charge punishable by death under legislation that rights groups say is routinely abused to settle personal vendettas.

Bibi's supporters maintain her innocence and insist it was a personal dispute, and the Vatican has called for her release.

But successive appeals have been rejected, and if the SC bench eventually upholds Bibi's conviction, her only recourse will be a direct appeal to the president for clemency.

If that fails, she could become the first person in Pakistan to be executed for blasphemy.

The repercussions for minorities, human rights and the blasphemy laws would be "tremendous", says Shahzad Akbar, a human rights lawyer.

Blasphemy is a hugely sensitive issue in Pakistan. Anyone even accused of insulting religion risks death at the hands of vigilantes.

Rights groups complain the controversial legislation is often abused to carry out personal vendettas, mainly against minority groups.

Observers had warned of possible violence if Bibi's conviction was overturned, with some calling the case a battle for Pakistan's soul as the state walks a line between upholding human rights and appeasing hardliners.

A senior police official told AFP that up to 3,000 security personnel had been deployed in the capital earlier Thursday.

Judges 'apprehensive'?
Zohra Yusuf, chair of the independent Human Rights Commission in Pakistan, told AFP the appeal delay was "regrettable", noting that Bibi was already being held in solitary confinement due to security concerns.

The judges may be "apprehensive", she said, adding that after the SC announced its decision to uphold Mumtaz Qadri's death sentence, justices had to sneak out the back door to the court.

"It's a sensitive case. I think they (the judges) have realised that if Asia Bibi [is] acquitted, they may be putting their own lives on the line," Yusuf said.

Pakistan have a judicial system. A Pakistan Penal Code, a Criminal Procedure Code, Session courts, High Courts and a Supreme Court. Let them work for God's sake.

Don't become judges. Muslims should think twice before commenting in favor of a woman who is sentenced by session and high courts and now trying to get international support to get freed. We cannot allow anyone to commit blasphemy. This world will be a hell in other case and people will take law into their hands just like Mumtaz Qadri. Let the judicial system work.

No need to mention of 100s of people are in jail with no reason these are wrost than NGOs are planting these stories in media what normal Pakistani will lose or get with this story but these stories are best examples for us to lose focus from highliting corrupt politicians.
Asia bibi sud be punished if she done this crime but its for court to make decision not us.. so stop getting sympathies for her... innocent sudnt remain in Jail.

More to that, Abdul bin Ubi was known for his hypocrisy and Rasool Allah (saw), led his Janzah' prayer. And even gave his shirt & above all made dua for his forgiveness.

Some extremist minded have damaged Islam more than non Muslims.
