you have no idea how much of this goes on, only a bit ever makes more than regional news, probably many times worse in Africa and at least equally bad or worse in many South American countries.

If it was a brutal rape then it would have easily made international story.It all about reinforcing stereotype muslim are terrorist and Indians are rapist.I remember during uttarakhand flood msnbc news headline screamed 5000 dead and only 10 comments where there below the news article 4 of them talking about excess population and this deaths are helping in reducing the population . But when the Nirbhaya rape case happened same news outlet and there were more than 2000 comments, with the usual jokes about gang rape.
News outlet will only report such story which have such psychological impact on its listeners. There is a German term which explains this behaviour schadenfreude to take pleasure in others misery.

crime is not exclusive to the poor world but more prevalent here, I guarantee you'll find more than your share of dirt if you go looking in Venezuela or Brazil too, let alone Africa or the rural Indian subcontinent populations.. do I even need to mention the middle east ?

surely, in south asia, especially india, we find the extremity of every kind of oppression and injustice... in which other society, even war-ravaged like somalia, would you find farmer/related suicides that number in 200,000 having taken place since 1997 and the state governments and central government trying to hide away that number and spending money in buying western weaponary and most of the young populace wasting life in college and job rather than commit to change their own society??

and the problems are all internal and can easily be removed by replacing the political system... it is simple really.

even the aap wants decentralized direct-democracy through its "swaraj" model... so there already is a confluence of ideas that must just be brought under a umbrella.

i don't know if isil is actually present in bangladesh but the reactionaries there are really a off-shoot of the indian tableeghi jamaat mullah movement which grew there because of years of non-action previously, include the allowing of the "bishwa ijtema", the largest gathering of mullahs and burqas in the world.

but now in bangladesh, the police i believe deal with the reactionaries strictly.

in pakistan, the army is partially engaged in war internally with the reactionaries and the civilians support this change in pakistan not least by supporting films like "yalghaar".

also, there still are socialist circles in both countries despite difficulties, especially in pakistan.

surely, these things must be acknowledged and encouraged.
