BBC News - Libya Sufi shrines attacked 'by Islamist hardliners'

Libyans: enjoy your wahabis and the many civil wars that will be bestowed upon you in the future. The wahabi takeover has begun.

A shrine in the Libyan capital Tripoli venerating a Sufi Muslim saint has been partly destroyed - the latest in a series of attacks blamed on ultra-conservative Salafi Islamists.

Tripoli residents said men with bulldozers attacked the shrine of al-Shaab al-Dahmani, unimpeded by police.

The attack came a day after hardliners were accused of damaging the tomb of a Sufi scholar in the city of Zlitan.

Hardline Salafists regard the shrines as idolatrous.

Notice the bolded part? Classic Saudi teaching. They call every non wahabi school of thought "idolatrous."

Do the Muslims other then Wahabbis have the strength and courage to oppose the SUADIS, considering they revere them as the ultimate custodian of their faith?

So how do Muslims (non wahabbis) fight against the people whom they consider guardian of their religion! That's quite a challenge and situation to be in for the non wahabbis. Seems wahabbis are winning though and spreading across the Muslims world.

What is the current formation of gov in Lybia? Are they religious or a mixture of everybody?

sunni world is in chaos and wahabism breeds in such countries. Iraq was free of wahabism before the chaos of the past couple of decades, AFG and Pak were free of wahabism before the Soviet invasion and the following events, Libya was free and it's now tasting wahabism. Syria is fighting the invasion of foreign Jihadists (from gulf countries). The future of the sunni Islamic world doesn't look too good.

Turkey is completely free, but then you have countries like Indonesia who are experiencing a lot of problems because they haven't been as extreme as the Turks in countering saudi funds and saudi funded mosques etc...

Don't know much about the state of saudi muslims

lol isn't it funny how they're suddenly out of the news?
The western oil companies got their contracts, that's all that matters it seems.

And who knows. From the looks of it, the salafi/wahabis have taken over.

It's democratic

Libya is a mess no one is in power, just Alqaeda and other armed gangs, everyday at least 10 Libyans die, but the media hides it bc its the west and gcc failure.

Although the Wabahis are the problem makers, but it is not unusual for the others to put all the wrongs around the neck of wahabis. The Taliban are not wahabis, but look at what they are dooing.

Brother, you're stuck in semantics. You need to brush em all with the same stroke and not get stuck in the saudi trap.

wahabi/salafi... blah blah all are the same. Extremism is extremism. Fight the disease and don't concern yourself with how people call the disease.

i do agree with you, but the term wahabi is overused that is why i made that comment.

But the Wahabis are spreading. The non wahabis are decreasing, and since the Wahabis take Religion (extreme view) as the support for their acts, it seems there is a problem of fear or better word is confusion for non wahabis muslims in countering them. If this continues soon the whole Muslim world would be inundated by these people. The non wahabi Muslim will be a thing of past.

Is there any VISIBLE RESISTANCE to these Wahabis by the CONSTITUTION or NON WAHABI people in the countries where these WAHABIS are in minoroty? (I suppose Saudi is the only nation which is wahabi majority and other Muslim nations still have majority non wahabi populations though this majority maybe only marginal in some of these countries). The non wahabis seem to be taking the Wahabis acts and cultural change and corruption with disapproval and reluctance but importantly without any fight! This non fight seems to serve the wahabis just right, they dont care if you disapprove till you dont fight and oppose visibly, as they keep growing under such circumstances.

For those of us that aren't willing to even waste 10 secs of our lives learning the diff between the diff extremist doctorines, it's not overused. Who gives a rat's behind what the different extremist cults are called. Call them wahabi and get it over with

Here comes the imported Wahabism. Guys don't worry, you can fix it, learn from Bosnia and Kosovo. Pack the recently invited Jihadis back home!

As i said, the ideology prospers in countries without any govt or strong govt to stop the spread of this disease. So while in Turkey the govt doesn't allow saudi funded schools, in countries like AFG, PAK and Libya the disease spreads like wildfire among the disgruntled young and the uneducated jobless.

Or learn from Iraqi Kurds.

In Iraqi Kurdistan, if they find an arab Jihadist, they will put a bullet in his brain right then and there. They literally man the check points with vengence and anger. They don't let any dodgy looking arab to enter the region and if they do, they will keep their eyes on him the entire time.

That's why Iraqi Kurdistan is so safe.
