An eye opening article, wonderfull!
Sonia finally put some sense into high flying jingoistic minds.
I wish someone has it on youtube, I'd like to listen to it.
yes we may say India is not going to become superpower but this is clear that India is emerging as one of the Major Power of that world which will not have any superpower. Power is measured in terms of Economic and Defense powers. and as Defense is also dependent on the economy of a country, we may say only economic powers can be said to be powers. now, if we have a look on the growing economy of India, Indian GDP on PPP will have surpassed one of the major economic power (or superpower) Japan by the end of this year to become the third largest economy of the world after US and China. and the story is not going to end here. this is just a start. second fastest growing economy of the world is preparing to travel a long journey. like, in 2005, GDP on PPP of US was $13,000bn and China $8,500bn, and that of Japan $4,000bn and India $3,800bn. but GDP of India on PPP is likely to be around $20,000bn on PPP by 2020, and that of China will be around $40,000bn while that of US will also be around $35,000bn. and fourth largest will be Japan with less than even $10,000bn on PPP. yes combined GDP of Europe will also be around $40,000bn after 2020. here advanced technology of US, EU and Japan will give them an edge over country like china but close relationship of India with western countries will always give her an advantage over china.
in short I may say, the world after 2020 will be dominated by just four powers. 1st US, 2nd Europe, 3rd China and 4th India. there will not be any 5th place, not even for a country like Russia, even combined ASEAN will not be close to these four powers. this is what very clear from now. and the time run very fast, if we have a look on the past, when India entered in top ten economies on PPP, about a decade before, just in 1994-1995. when india became fourth largest economy on PPP surpassing the largest economy of Europe, Germany, it was in 2000. and when a difference will be made between economies above $20,000bn and below $10,000bn, after 2020, it will not take much time. time runs very fast
