Pata.. Indian sword

This is an Indian sword with a gauntlet integrated as a handguard.[1] Often referred to in its native Marathi as a dandpatta, it is commonly called a gauntlet-sword in English.

Traditionally, Maratha warriors were trained to fight with dual pata by bearing one in each hand. Alternatively, a single pata was used in addition to a belt, javelin, or axe in the other hand. The sword was also used by cavalry soldiers[1] for its thrusting ability and was found more effective when two soldiers fought together as pair..

I believe there was a Discovery show compare this sword to European sabre. And the result was unexpected. This sword can crush through helmet easily, and certainly break an arm or leg if make contact. The flesh wound it made was so nasty that doctor at that time could not do anything but to dig out the damaged flesh to avoid blood loss.

@Cossack25A1 , @Zero_wing , @JayMandan , -- btw, the Taiwanese aborigines are closely related to the Igorots of Northern Luzon. In fact, in a comprehensive archaeological-anthropologic point of view, the native Filipinos are genetically similar to the aborigines of Taiwan. As are most of the native Malays of present day Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

These swords or you may call sabers were from Turkic origin.. These are extremely light and were meant to give fatal cuts to enemy with skills... Many of Indian sabers (talwars) have been inspired by these sword.. Before that, Indians used straight single edged swords called Khadag and latter called as Khanda... These straight swords were called as "Asi" before Mahabharata time....

Meanwhile this is sword from south India which required good skills to wield.
This is a longsword with a flexible whip-like blade from India. Originating in the country's southern states, it is thought to have existed as far back as the Maurya dynasty. The urumi is considered one of the most difficult weapons to master due to the risk of injuring oneself. It is treated as a steel whip, and therefore requires prior knowledge of that weapon. For this reason, the urumi is always taught last in the martial arts.

The word urumi is of north Keralan origin. In the state's southern region it is more commonly called a chuttuval, from the words for coiling or spinning (chuttu) and sword (vaal). Alternative Tamil names for the weapon aresurul val (curling sword) and surul katti (curling knife).

To make it easier to the historically illiterate most ancient weapons were made of Bronze or Iron. Sorry about the burst, but I really hate it when people mess with the timelines.

There's a Taiwanese movie called Seediq Bale (2011). One of the best historical movies i have seen. I was surprised when I first saw it because I thought the movie was about native Filipinos fighting the imperial army during WW2. We do look like them.

They were ferocious fighters. It is documented that Japan's first Governor of Taiwan -- Kabayama Sukenori -- that it was far easier for the Imperial Army to suppress the native Han who inhabited the flatland of Taiwan as compared to the Aborigines, who fought to the death. They had what we Japanese refer as "Yamatodamashi" -- this means Japanese Fighting Spirit.

Taiwanese Aborigines were very effective in guerrilla warfare and in mountain tactics. It took a lot of man power to subjugate them.

is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade-patterning achieved through alternating laminations of iron and nickelous iron (pamor). While most strongly associated with the culture of Indonesia the kris is also indigenous to Malaysia, Thailand, Bruneiand Singapore. It is known as kalis in the southern Philippines. Badik

The badik or badek is a knife or dagger developed by the Bugis and Makassar people of southern Sulawesi, Indonesia.

It comes in great variety and sizes. The badik has a straight, curved, bulbous or wavy, single or double edge blade. The blade has a smooth or provided with hollow sections. The weapon either is pointed or rounded. Like the kris, the shape of the blade is asymmetric and often decorated with pamor (pattern welding steel commonly known as Damascus steel). However, it differs from the kris in that the badik does not a have ganja (a buffer strip steel). Some versions from Sulawesi are decorated with inlaid gold figure on the blade called jeko. The handle is made of wood, horn or ivory in a shape of a pistol grip at 45° to 90° degree angle or similar in a bent often decorated with carvings. From its native Sulawesi, the badik soon spread to neighbouring islands like Java, Borneo, Sumatra and as far as the Malay Peninsula, creating a wide variety of badik according to each region and ethic group. There are many versions made and used throughout the Indonesian archipelago alone

Klewang

The klewang or kelewang is a type of single-edge longsword from Indonesia with a protruding notch near its tip. In size, weight and shape it is halfway between the golok and the kampilan. The style of the klewang differs between the various cultures of Indonesia. Blades range from 15-30 inches in length and may be straight or slightly curved. It is carried for show by followers of chiefs, or taken on expeditions to market or nightly walks in the villages. It is worn without a sheath although there are sheathed varieties.

You are referring to the Amis of Taiwan, right? Well it is said that their closest biological relative is Filipinos which would include the Ivatan of Batanes.

Fencing swords like the Rapier?
5296fea834b007b8e03a32f92b974fb3.jpg

It was said to be used by civilian as a self-defense weapon (similar to modern day civilian version of the AR-15 rifle), as well as for duel. It is unlikely that this sword has seen battlefield use as this sword is merely for thrust attacks.

As stated in the internet, the name "Rapier" came from the Spanish word ropera, which in turn comes from ropa, or elegant dress, thus a "dress sword". So it is likely that this sword is used as a form of decoration, specifically for the upper class people.

Swords are over rated. Most armies in ancient times used spears for their longer reach. Once you lose your spear, then you might have to use a sword.View attachment 75312

Chinese armies during the Qin dynasty used the dagger axe, a polearm weapon that can be used for thrusting and slashing.

This dude has a sword but its a weapon of last resort, not counting his fists and feet.

Golok is a term applied to a variety of machetes that are found throughout the Malay archipelago.[1] It is used as an agricultural tool as well as a weapon. The word golok (sometimes misspelled in English as "gollock") is of Indonesian origin[2]but is also used in Malaysia and is known as gulok in the Philippines. In Malaysia the term is usually interchangeable with the longer and broader parang.[3] In the Sundanese region of West Java it is known as bedog.
