‘Let Us Bury the Past, Not the Future’: Pakistan and Bangladesh

Time it is said heals all wounds. But in the case of Pakistan and Bangladesh, two countries that had buried the past; a renewed picking of the wounds has restarted. Twenty-four years of shared history between the eastern and western wings of Pakistan preceded the violent emergence of Bangladesh on a groundswell of hate and bitterness on 16 Dec 1971. Yet a little more than 2 years later when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto visited Dhaka in 1974 at the invitation of Shaikh Mujibur Rahman, he was received by cheering crowds raising “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans.

Since 2009, all the memories of hatred and bitterness that defined 1971 have been revived with intensity and purpose.

For the next 30 years or so, a bonhomie developed which year after year kept on exercising bit by bit the bitterness of the past. As a mark of growing confidence about their investments being secure, Pakistani industrialists flooded the newly created export processing zones.

Courts Being Compromised

During the second term of Awami League (AL) Leader Ms. Hasina Wajed, all this changed dramatically. Since 2009, all the memories of hatred and bitterness that defined 1971 have been revived with intensity and purpose. While the founding party of Bangladesh always promotes a nationalist agenda, and it has every right to do so, the airing of anti-Pakistani propaganda at the behest of India after three decades of increasing love and friendship was totally unnecessary and goes against the grain.

In the year 2010, India used the Bangladeshi nationals accused of alleged war crimes in 1971 and backed up the AL leadership. Their trials represented the new found Hasina Wajed obligation to India. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) being used for the trial is incidentally not an international court as the name suggests but a national court based on a Bangladeshi statute passed in 1973.

That is a wishful thinking ... We all know it was all about....

one thing is for sure... even if i have serious issues with my brother... i wont allow our common enemy to take advantages ...

Here Bangali people , invited common enemy to take advantage and created mukti bani who were not saints either..

if you do not understand the above statement, then there is no need to answer it ..

.
Pakistan and Bangladesh has no future, not until haseena and her stooges in Power

. .
With the current BD gov there is no future sadly that lady is full of hatred and poison she just hates us she's feeding lies and seeding hatred in young Bengali people she's gonna make sure that there is no room for future Pak/BD relations.

The thing is, my friend, it's not just Hasina that does this. The BNP (not just Hasina/Awami League) spouts the same "genocide" and "atrocities" nonsense. They are two sides of the same coin:

"Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday said Pakistan in no way can hide the fact of ‘genocide’ and ‘atrocities’ committed by its army during Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971.

The party came up with the statement following Pakistan’s foreign ministry’s claim that Pakistan did not commit war crimes during Bangladesh’s war of independence.

‘Pakistani army committed genocide and atrocities in Bangladesh in 1971. They cannot conceal the truth’ BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon said at a news briefing.

He made the remarks when asked about Pakistan foreign ministry’s recent statement about denial of committing war crimes during Bangladesh’s Liberation War."

It's not Hasina, but Bangladesh as a whole that has been feeding itself and its young lies since 1971. I have met plenty of Bangladeshis here. And whether religious or secular, BNP or Awami League supporter, there is a lot of hatred for Pakistan and brainwashing surrounding 1971. They have a deep-seated hatred for Pakistan, which some are very vocal about. Others are less vocal about it, but it still comes out it in moments of anger.

They are no better than Afghans. The problem is not the government, but the people themselves. In any case, Bangladesh has little to offer us. We should turn our attention elsewhere to friendlier countries that actually matter like Turkey and China.

Two sides of same coin brother over there. SHW is just a higher degree (in pak-hate).

There is no alternative because that country society has decided to become polarised into 2 parts....with only Pakistan = evil as the common thread.

Only when that country society matures into something that can rid itself of polarisation and bring in a true development-only agenda with neutral foreign policy, we can see some hope for genuine rapprochement between BD and Pakistan. But we have seen just how long for example North Korea can perpetuate a dynasty and being a rump state completely reliant on a neighbouring titan....so I do not hold much hope for BD (as much they like to blah blah that they balance with China etc)....just be thankful you do not share a boundary with BD today....and weather this out as long as it takes (focus on your economy, it is not linked with BD anyway)....while not trying to force something there (because whatever the result will be, its not going to be good for Pakistan...its just varying levels of bad). Just complete ignore mode is best I think....and hope future generations can make some breakthrough and bridges.

Well dont you think it is poetic justice? Pakistan is doing the same thing against India for decades now they complain BD is filling its ppl with hatred! Come on whether you like it or not pakistan is a "pro" while BD is just a kid starting out. On the other hand we can even argue that BD's grievances are some what justified even though their actions might be extreme.

Well lets say wat goes around comes around. well I bet as usual you wont agree.:azn:

The hate in India - Pak scenario has matured and solidified....so a select few (and growing) on both sides can bypass and interact beyond it.

But in BD its kept gooey, infantile and quite visceral w.r.t Pakistan....and even India. They are basically a more bratty, crybaby, childish form of hate...that has not even congealed, much less solidified...so its quite different as far as I have seen.

If only she leaves some room for that...

Look i don't wanna engage in a troll war. If we've spread hatred against you than you do the same too and on a much higher level a lot of your politicians do that in their speeches modi for example admitted that india supported mukti's and your media they talk about breaking Pakistan almost on daily basis have you ever seen our gov or media behaving like that? so no Pakistan is not "pro" at it even after so much friction and war of words that has happened in the last 2-3 years between us few of our media houses are still sympathetic towards you and than we've NS who's the most pro India Pakistani PM you can ever get but still your politicians/media talk about breaking Pakistan. Now getting back to BD Musharaf even apologized but they really wanna live in 71 and their gov is hell bent on finishing all that sympathy Pakistani people had towards BD and it's people.

.
If only she leaves some room for that...

The one thing BD people still have that SHW (or anyone) can never take away... is the level playing field of interaction formed outside BD. This is why the bridges are made outside BD by the BD people who work with and make friends with regular Pakistanis and Indians etc that are also there.

Thats why North Korea I use as an extreme case. They had to enforce complete hermit ideology on their own people (take the economic hit, only allow people you vet that are indoctrinated and very few in number to leave the country etc for diplomatic purposes and just 1 or two other reasons).

Whereas BD has millions of its people (legal and illegal) even in the two "enemy" countries of South Asia and also across the larger world. So nurturing those bridges are best hope for now is all I can say....but the strength about those is its done quite organically rather than artificially etc. given common cultural threads and heritage etc.

So its nowhere close to completely under control of SHW in the first place to decide the room she leaves. I talk purely from BD govt and maybe large degree of BD as a country/political entity. Larger society that has spread past the borders.....her power dissipates at a rate of knots with every mile from her power base...quite literally. It is what such people carry in their heart inherently.....and thus we see there is better interaction among all desis incl BD people when they are freed from the subcontinent atmosphere. India and Pakistan in subcontinent at least have more space for their people (and much larger diversity, federal structure etc) so it helps them to chill past the moments that grip us in the hate/rivalry regarding the "other" side....BD doesnt have that, so it suffocates them more whoever is running the show there.

First Pakistan should give Tika Khan to BD
Ye aa gaya aa lagane wala "Chanakaya" :taz:

I know most of BD people supports for this ideology... Quite surprised with Indian Hindu mentality.. They want India to be Hindu Rashtra and no place for Muslims but in BD they are supporting Secular... What a hypocrisy....

"Isko kehte hai Banya Brahman ka dimag" :taz:
