One major thing that people forget is that once you have attained a position of power or a position by which you can influence people or is adored by millions, you cannot live your life solely based on your wishes. Your life is scrutinized and your action can help you to continue to attain your pedestal or you can loose all your life's work. This hold true for all public figures. They may be politicians, media personals and government officials etc. Everyone of them is expected to adhere to a particular code and if they don't, they are vilified for it. You can pick examples from all over the world and it will hold true. Case in point, look at what happened to Mel Gibson. His rant was his personnel views but he was destroyed by the media and the people, who had previously adored him, started hating him.

The same goes for our actors. They can dress whatever they like within the confines of their homes but once they step out, they are expected to act, dress and carry them as people expect them to. Mahira Khan cultivated an image of the girl next door. She was never extremely vulgar in her dressing. This picture throws that image out of the window and hence the outrage.
