Legion Of Honor For Gen Tariq Majid

Rawalpindi - October 5, 2010:

President Nicolas Sarkozy of the Republic of France has conferred the highest French military award, Legion of Honour (Légion d'honneur) to General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

The award was conferred on behalf of the French President by H.E. Mr. Daniel JOUANNEAU, Ambassador of France to Pakistan in a simple ceremony at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chaklala.

Ambassador JOUANNEAU speaking on the occasion stated that during his tenure as CJCSC, General Tariq has played a major role in consolidation and modernization of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and pursued close engagement earning respect of the foreign partners, and that his country wanted to express its appreciation and gratitude to General Tariq Majid for enhancing bilateral ties and defence cooperation between the two countries. That is why President Nicolas Sarkozy has decided to confer the title of Officer of the Legion of Honour, the highest French National Order.

General Tariq Majid conveyed his thanks to the people, the armed forces and the Government of France for honouring him. He further stated that more than recognition of his contributions towards furthering bilateral ties and defence collaboration between Pakistan and France, it is a tribute to the people and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, and reflects common desire of the two countries to further strengthen this relationship, and make it more robust, multidimensional and mutually beneficial.

New CJCSC assumes office

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Khalid Shameem Wynne assumed the charge of his office on Friday. A ceremony was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters to welcome the newly appointed CJCSC, Khalid, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release. On arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, he was received by Director General Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Sardar Mahmood Ali Khan. A smartly turned out contingent of the three services presented the guard of honour to the CJCSC, who reviewed the parade. Later, Director Generals of the Joint Staff Headquarters were introduced to the new chairman. Khalid holds vast experience of serving at various command and staff appointments. app
