Left behind as Asia forges ahead
By Editorial
INDIA has just inked a set of agreements with Vietnam. Earlier this month, Shinzo Abe of Japan became the first Japanese prime minister to visit Bangladesh, a tour that included a stop in Sri Lanka. He brought along with him an entourage of 22 Japanese businessmen looking to do business in both countries.

And this weekend, China’s President Xi Jinping concluded a visit to the Maldives, where amongst other engagements, he contributed a written piece to a local newspaper that talked of a 21st-century “maritime silk road”, and said, “China welcomes Maldives to get actively involved” in building this trade corridor.

He then headed for Sri Lanka, where the maritime silk road is already in substantial evidence, with a Chinese deep sea port as a key factor in a sea lane that connects Southeast Asia with the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Japan this past Saturday, meeting Shinzo Abe and giving him his own message of “come, build in India”. Both sides agreed to set up a dialogue process involving their foreign and defence ministers to create a long-term, sustained process of cooperation on strategic and economic concerns.

Soon the Chinese president will sit down with Mr Modi in discussions that will touch on the sources of tension between these two giant economies, as well as the wellsprings of opportunity that exist.

A Sri Lankan diplomat, observing the whole round of meetings and summits and state visits taking place around Asia all month, described it as a “complex tapestry of relations” that is being woven in the region ever since India’s new prime minister was elected.

Asia has been abuzz with activity throughout the month so far, weaving itself together, talking, building and positioning its assets and relationships in a complex multi-player game that is all but set to emerge as the dominant theatre of Great Power rivalry.

There is much tension across the region. A festering border dispute and suspicion of each other’s motives animates much of India’s relationship with China. In the rest of Asia too, rising China inspires as much trepidation as it does awe.

Now consider what Pakistan has been busy doing since last month: indulging in political bickering, listening to scathing speeches with little purpose, and making hardly any attempt at a solution.

For decades now, we have remained mired in conspiring against each other as a globalising world has raced ahead. Now, as globalisation draws to a close and a new world dominated by regional trading blocs begins to take shape before our eyes, we still remain busy in scuffles and speeches and point-scoring.

At some point this behaviour must end. At some point we must learn to respect the rules we have laid down for ourselves, learn to demarcate our interests into strategic, political and economic domains, and pursue each separately.

Imran, Qadri & Nawaz should be really feeling PROUD... Well Done Guyz... Keep it up :)

.
Modi gave an open offer during his inauguration, but was messed up in bickering's cease fire violations and useless posturing that amounted to jack in the end.

his offer was nothing but a usual blabber and whine about 26/11 and Hafiz Saeed-

instead our PM Nawaz Shareef accepted the invitation- considering manmohan singh rejected his invitation to attend his swearing in ceremony in Pakistan- he went to india with a hope- and came back red faced with the usual indian whining and crying message-

Nawaz spent two days in India, you think he was just into hafiz sayeed and 26/11
?

There were trade and energy talks, including the TAPI pipeline that even China, russia and banladesh as an extension was keen on. There was talk about investments in Pakistan, there was talk about a joint working group to resolve the afghan crisis.

This is how global relations work. This reminded me of how BCCI invited PCB to join the big 3 and your now thrown out pcb chairman made a grandstanding about it. What happened in the end? Pcb was 1 against 9 in the voting.

Even your newspaper did not wrote any about it- all we saw was warning- whining- etc-

i like to see proofs- an article or press conference will do-

Asad Bhai, Just be honest.. and tell me Was he in a position to ACTUALLY MAKE DECISIONS ?
The Last Hope was Musharraf.. when we are close to an Historic Agreement.

And Guess what, India is very happy with StatusQuo and LOC.

Pakistan ( Just the Army.. The True Rules of Pakistan ) may keep all its resources on defence and defence alone... while India makes a "brothers in arms" with China.. Australia and Japan...

Lets face it, Just 5 more years and we shall be saying.. its 3 Decades Lost for Pakistan !

A 45 minute one on one meeting with NAMO. All these were right on the table. There are multiple articles on it. Google indo pak plus each of what I said.

All that requires PA to relinquish its jihadi involvment. Going by Mr. Basit's statement that Hafiz Sayeed is a free citizen, we can safely assume that PA is not willing to stop its 'wary dance' with the jihadi elements. By simple reasoning, one can conclude that Pakistan will be left behind in this frenzied asian race to the finish. But nothing to fear, since Pakistan is not an asian country (as claimed by many Pakistanis) but a middle eastern country.

Both PM were very keen on improved trade and energy corridor including normalisation of relations. Ceasefire violations spoilt the environment. Take a guess who it was that threw a spanner in the works.

21st century is Asia's century. Asia is moving ahead with a tenacity thats comparable to European rise during renaissance. And Asia will indeed dominate the world just like europe did. But the opposite is happening in Pakistan. We are still stuck in backward mentality. Even in 21st century Pakistanis are not demanding local governance. They have no sense that central government has little to do with the affairs of a common man. They like to worship personalities and give them all the power. Just elected a failed and retarded previous PM again. Pakistan will be a bit of Africa left in Asia the way things are going.

Pakistan always had choice Terrorism or Economic Wealth And everyone knows what the path it chosen
