Syria is a war against mujahideen at the request of the Syrian Arab Republic.
Georgia was protection of ethnic Abkhaz and Ossetian minorities against Georgian aggression.
Ukraine was getting back Crimea which Khruschev took from Russia and gave to Ukraine in 1954.

Russia after 1991 aided Algeria against mujahideen and aided Tajikistan against mujahideen. Syria is a relatively new intervention.

.
But you don't have to choose...
Inthis Lebanese case..;they don't have to choose..; they can manage alone...
But since Hezbollah is master... so RU got his share...
sooner or later fate of lebnon would be same as all other me countries... you are angry because they shut the door on american face?

And which country prospered by RU alliance?
first of all it was ussr who saved europes a$$ from hitler...

then there is China, india n many others who relies on Russian defense equipment..
btw what is your point... why do you thing they shouldn't let this happen... show me single country which don't rely on another country so whats big deal in it... or is it just Russia?

Totally agree. However Lebanon is in a hard place due to its size, neighborhood and past experiences within the country itself (Lebanese civil war) and how divided (politically) most of them are. The splits between Lebanese Sunni Arabs, Lebanese Shia Arabs, Lebanese Christian Arabs and minorities such as Druze, Maronites, Armenians etc. Add to this the Palestinians living in Lebanon since decades and most recently a large influx of Syrians (mainly Syrian Sunni Arabs who are anti-Al-Assad).

I have not even mentioned Hezbollah (a foreign-controlled/influenced) militia within the country itself that is stronger than the Lebanese army. We all know the state (usually) of countries where militias/gangs/call it what you want to, are stronger than the national army. It's not pretty most of the time.

BTW here Tunisia is more blessed as it lies in a more "save" neighborhood far away from non-Arab hostile countries. You can only think about Italy, but they are not hostile today. Mussolini is long gone. Tunisia for instance is trapped between Algeria (a regional Maghrebi power) and Libya.

For instance both Algeria, Libya are most worried about their Southern borders and the security threat from the Sahel, not to say mass-migration.

As for this news, I consider it doubtful. What would Russians gain? They already have a decade old presence in Western Syria (next door) in Latakia. Strange move IMO.

BTW, you see similar policies from the smaller GCC states. It's IMO more harmful than positive.

.
Algeria. Egypt. Iraq. Syria is doing not too bad either. India. Pakistan. Just to name a few.
Need to re-do your "prosperity" definition...

Not really... yes USSR did make a good job..;but without all it will be not possible...
and getting weapon from someone does not meant "prosperity"... an alliance is what you get with the likes of US-Japan / US-EU /US-Israel etc...

So yes NO alliance with RU, till this day made them prosper...

Gas... as a win-win relation... with "giving" security and equipment etc...
Same with Syria..;where they locked the offshore gas field... and the oil wells in Deir-ez-Zor desert...

Explain? Do you mean that Russia will serve as a security guarantor for Lebanese gas in the region? If that is the case, it might not be too stupid if Lebanon can play this out well but that is the question. I don't think they will/can.

Russians will play with them, like they do with Al-Assad (Syria) and to a smaller extent the highly incompetent Algerian military regime.

Or "inside Russia itself" (Chechnya, Kadyrov etc.)

+1
AS security guarantor and AS "owners"
They will dev those gas fields... since Lebanon can't do it herself... and sell it...

Same is happening with Syria..where they already signed an agreement...

So basically the Lebanese "leadership" is selling out to foreigners willingly? Al-Assad, deserves no mention, as he already sold his country to foreigners a long ago, so I am not even going to discuss him here.

There is no limit what trash leadership can do of harm to your country and people. It's sad.
