Lca Tejas SP1 - SP10 in pictures

The last great Indian DUD was a MARUT - which, although designed by Kurt Tank of Focke Wulf fame, died a premature death too. No prize for making guesses. India remains the 'paradise of chori' in spite of Sanghis trying to paint it as an advanced economy.

Then, as now, the problem was the same.
  • Lack of commitment for Indian politicians to developing indigenous capability in aerospace manufacture, which does not help their pockets percentage wise.
  • More importance given to lining politicians' and defense chiefs' pockets using 'phoren' equipment purchases, witness BOFORS and other expensive scams
  • In spite of the Americans building HAL in the 1940's to repair and refurbish USAAF transports, (C46s, C47s and C119s) and gifting HAL (spoon-feeding an Aviation Industry) to India in ready to go form, the proven capability of Indians to eff-up a ready-made-thing continues. Even compared to the equivalent efforts in Pakistan and Indonesia, the performance of HAL (and DRDO) is dismal in this area.
Witness the foreign made components used in the LCA project, this is one third of the list (even fuel cap is imported)....

India is flying Russian junk from sixty years ago. This needs to change

We need to build Indengious aerospace industry

Unlike Pakistan we have money and people to do this

Look at our warships we build and thecsuccess of isro our space programme.

Lca is no world beater but it's better than a the migs we fly and on paper better than the third tier Chinease budget plane you people are buying on loan from Chengdu

I am not Pakistani first of all.

Just an independent observer of aerospace topics and subjects.

Why has it taken 18 years to develop the LCA and it's still not ready? Will it ever be?

Then you offered it to Bangladesh? And we still did not buy. Any guesses? Do missed targets with weight/payload, obsolescence and failed experiments (naval) ring a bell?

Warships and ISRO have nothing to do with a fighter program. Compared to China's achievements in those areas - yours still pale in comparison.

India may 'seem to have money and people to' develop an indigenous aerospace industry but the last seventy years of dismal history at HAL (more recently DRDO as well) says otherwise. It is the worst aerospace industry anywhere, even compared to Pakistani and Indonesian programs. Time to revamp HAL and get these lazy thick 'entitled' morons off the property...

I will agree however though that a Mig-21 replacement for IAF is nowhere in sight....

Tejas has a homemade content of 75% by replaceable units and 60% by value. If that's not an aerospace achievement for a third world development (the only one in existence besides Chinese), I'd like to know what is. Assembling and license building?

An aircraft contains an awful number of parts. A list like the one posted above may seem big for novices.

that's a major concern.Combat radius is way too less for any use in real case scenario. Min should be 550.

The Mk2s might have an extended combat radius.

Otherwise at this rate, we will need to deploy all LCAs at LOC and deploy everything else towards LAC.

really ! is that why we are making it. So what to do park it at wagha border ?

SE engine fighter requirements is due to accommodations at forward bases , which were housing aircrafts like MIG 21

Tejas has a cranked delta wing design,the crank solves the problem of vortex burst at high AOA and adds to lift just like a canard without increaing drag due to extra control surface and without increasing RCS and eating into the stealth of aircraft which are undoubtedly inherent property of canard.

FYI - The below wind tunnel model of Tejas did not enter production as the engineers solved the vortex problem without compromising on the stealth/RCS.

JF17 is joint fighter

We never claimed it was indoogi-eeneus this is an Indian obsession

We have had a good airforce for decades in actual air combat we have bested the indian and Soviet airforces and took the israliis to task when the Arabs couldn't

We wanted to utilise our experience to guide development of the JF17 and we would obtain parts from anywhere in the world with the aim of gradually manufacturing as much of the plane as we could in-house

Those energized vortices allow for greater AoA at command, but then leave no room for energy conservation.
Summarized, if the Tejas decided to engage in a turning fight with any platform beyond a Mig-21 it will not last long.
Its strength is like the M-2000 to stay R speed and use quick nose pointing to get the first shot off.
But with high boresight systems coming online, this is getting less and less relevant. Its no longer point and shoot as much as look and shoot.

Since nobody realises this. Tejas is less about building an aircraft. It's about building the infrastructure to build aircrafts.

The learning and knowledge and successes and failures and operstions of Tejas will only help in the future to make more modern jets. Rome wasn't built in a day .
