Latest count: China has 1.341 billion people

all countries should adopt the one child policy. we have way too many people on this earth we live in.

Just think about 20 billion less people in India and see how it feels.

Earth would look like Mars.

Smart assery apart, India's population growth is going down slowly. So whatever it is that Indian government is doing/not doing is working.

And as far as China is concerned, its population density is highly skewed towards its east coast. If you get rid of Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, thats only about 55 Million people and almost half of China's area gone. So China's population density is much worse than India, and they perhaps needed the one child policy.

If China can operate 9/11 style service effectively why can't India? It has got nothing to do with population, its all about the money and resource available. If America can provide 9/11 service for 300 million, India can too for 1.2 Billion people. Its all about money.

Having said all that, am not saying that Indians should control their population, they should, but not by enforcing some law, rather by educating people.

There is no 911 service in India? What happens if you are being robbed?

There is no such service in India which people can rely upon. Here in US I feel confident if anything goes wrong, all I have to do is dial 911 and they will find me even if I did not give them my address, even if I am in middle of forest. Their emrgency service is awesome.

In India you can call 100 but depending upon who you are they might react, if you are a minister you might get faster than US service, if you are poor guy forget about police doing anything, even if you are just 1 block away from police station.

This is sad story of India, Government is for the rich and influential.

I hate crowded city sidewalks, no pleasure of being leisure. China's population should stay at current level, or even reduce by a few percentage points. Current populations's demand for housing and foods has caused painful price hikes and inflation. Less people meant more share of food and resources per capital, and at cheaper price.

If that happens you"ll have more older people in this world than the younger ones.

Imbalance between the age groups can have its negative consequences.

It takes only one city like LOS ANGELS to put together all 6 billion people of earth to stand ... so living space for 6 billion people is not a headache , the problem lies in gathering resources for them ....

Educate yourself.

Our population growth rate is 1.34 and as for total fertility rate per 2005-2010 statistics ,India comes under ,2-3 children category

File:Countriesbyfertilityrate.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As of 2008 it births per woman is 2.7

Yeah but I'd like to point out that 0.6 above the replacement rate (2.1) for a population of 1.2 billion is a lot more significant than say the 3.8 of Saudi Arabia's 20 million.

anyways I hope that as India raises living standards and relative affluence that it's population will stablize

Today most of the family is planning for one child.. at the max two.. not more than that...

Not really because China is almost three times larger than India by land area, and India's population is quickly catching up to China's.

The western area of China will be soon populated in the near future as the per capita difference will become less significant between Eastern China and Western China.
