- Passengers should keep their devices adequately charged otherwise would not be allowed on plane.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - American security forces have imposed further sanctions on Pakistanis travelling to the US. Passengers would be expected to get their laptops, electronic notebooks, electronic tablets and mobile phone data checked and monitored. All Pakistani passengers going to America would be advised to keep all their electronic devices fully charged, the ones not charged shall be confiscated. All air companies have been informed of these conditions by the American Transport Security Administration (TSA).
Any passenger moving in and out of US would have to keep all the electronic devices powered up enough to be switched on and checked. As per the guidelines, if any gadget could not be switched on, the respective person would not be allowed to carry the device onto to the aircraft.
All these measures are being carried out in the wake of threats of terror plots. The US Homeland Security is said to have intelligence that Al-Qaeda’s chief bomb maker is cooking something up with militants from Syria. Reports suggest that the two terror networks are working on a bomb that could be placed in the mobile phones and are eligible to escape the existing security.
Officials are making sure that the passengers do not face any delays and there devices get screened simultaneously and by the time they pass through the regular screening process their devices would be monitored.
Not only US but UK has also introduced similar restrictions giving same reasons. The chairman of the UK parliament's intelligence and security committee, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, said the increased airport security measures were "unavoidable".
Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, he said extremists were deploying "devilish technical skill" to create ever more sophisticated devices to evade existing security measures. And he warned of the dangers of "complacency" among the public in the face of the failure of the terrorists to mount any successful mass casualty attack in the UK since the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005.
