I just want to say that, that is one of the sanest analyses I've seen on the issue. To fight something that plagues a large portion of the society one needs changes in mindsets, not executions. We don't want martyrs, we want to discredit the ideology.

And if anyone is going to claim "Oh but the ideology is finished" after APS I would not agree. The ideology was merely dented. There's still a large portion of the population that holds some shockingly extremist views. Case in point: All the mullahs that support this Ghazi ahole. All the mumtaz qadri lovers. Pakistan is a multi-ethnic society and it cannot afford to isolate any (major) segment in the matters of state.

There are two kind of extremists in the country at present; liberal extremists and religious extremists. Both are in the wrong, period.

And if liberals think that they can get away with thousands of executions, let them try it. Such a development will lead to civil war and destruction of the country at large. Just look at the situation of Iraq and Syria.
