On the grapevine.. it seems the shooting of the SSG commander triggred the endgame, with the troops becoming bloodthirsty.
And Musharraf had no option but to unleash his own commando kind...
after which it was no holds barred.
The place was blockaded for over a week. I believe that is sufficient time. The residents even used that time to their advantage by booby trapping the entire mosque and madrassah. Commandos are not blood-thirsty killing machines this is Pakistan, not post-skynet America(Terminator). Even when the operation was under way, on numerous occasions commandos escorted people from inside who had either been held or had lost the will to fight. If I have any reservation over the operation, it is the General Pardon that was given to those who surrendered. Those bastards later caused us a bag full of problems in the form of the Ghazi Brigade.
