Punjab’s provincial capital Lahore is set to introduce the "Blue Road" concept in Lahore making it the first city in Pakistan and Asia to introduce environment-friendly roads.

The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), is working on the proposal.

Officials said the concept aimed to modernise the city's infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Blue Roads are designed to offer a sustainable alternative to traditional asphalt roads, incorporating heat observation and energy-conserving features to reduce pollution and promote a healthier environment.

These innovative roads utilise a specialised coating that reflects sunlight, reducing the amount of heat absorbed by the road surface. In addition, the reflective coating improves visibility for drivers at night, improving road safety.

Officials told that the CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin has directed the timely execution of the project on the instructions of caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

While expressing his views Imran Amin said, "We are excited to introduce the Blue Road concept in Pakistan, which has already been implemented successfully in several European and Middle Eastern countries like Netherlands, France and Qatar.

This project will not only bring environmental benefits, such as heat observation, energy conservation, and reduced pollution, but also contribute to our vision of creating a modern, sustainable, and inclusive society in Punjab."

Amin said that his organisation is committed to delivering projects that enhance the standard of living for its residents.

"The introduction of the Blue Road concept was just one of many initiatives that the authority was undertaking to modernise the city's infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its citizens."

I don't get it

"Blue Roads are designed to offer a sustainable alternative to traditional asphalt roads, incorporating heat observation and energy-conserving features to reduce pollution and promote a healthier environment."

heat absorption ?

energy-conserving features ?

like what ? solar power lights for the night maybe, because they're not powered by the grid (coal plants etc) ?

.
I dunno blue green yellow, at the moment for nearly 6 months we have to pass through that underpass which really sucks. Plus taking away nurseries and small airport replacing it with high rises , i don't understand what kind of environment friendly this road be.

Regular roads = black color = garam hoings. Blue is absorbing less heat. Better for tyres too. Though I don't know if the blue coating increases friction or reduces it. I don't know what they mean by energy conserving features though.

looks bs

they tried a bus corridor in delhi, massively unpopular, made everything even worse and was eventually demolished (the barriers etc) and returned to regular road status.

The green brigade everywhere is constantly at the throat of city administrations. Sometimes the admin will accommodate some token projects like these to alleviate the situation.

At least Delhi had some road width. They tried the hair brained idea in Bangalore too. It was a titanic disaster.

yup

got rid of it too, I suppose ?

the rage was palpable here.. massive jams on a small section , half the road empty, and then you'd the occasional bus just zip through.. unki traffic lights bhi alag thi. :|

CBD land at Lahore old Walton airport is encroached by none other than the army's Askari housing. Now it's a narrow strip of land, a large area is dotted with bungalows.

Lahore main airport is facing the same problem, the expansion plan of the terminal is stopped, the newer parking is done.

Lahore loves doing these silly gimmicks, instead of addressing the real issue…stopping urban sprawl.

The way Lahore has destroyed itself is a tragedy. Instead of promoting a regeneration of Lahore’s urban cores, LDA is more interested in letting every Malik, Ali and Khokar buy up previous agricultural land and redevelop it (insert stupid name here) COOPERATIVE HOUSING SCHEME - PHASE FLANA.

What Lahore needs is a full stop ban on new housing developments and re-development of Lahore’s existing communities.

There’s large swaths of the city which are urban black holes….miles upon miles of disgusting brown bricks….no trees in sight. You see this in places all along Multan Road by River Ravi all the way to Mughalpura. It’s disgusting.

The solution to this is redevelopment of these neighborhoods and encouraging people back INTO the city….and when I mean people, I mean wealth…the middle class and the wealthy.

Yeah. It was a flimsy set up. Most of it was run over by Tempo Travellers and Tata Sumos. Whatever was left, they had no option but to remove once the Metro construction started. The bloody screws are still left in many stretches.

people broke those rules all the time, cops ne bhi haar maan li thi by the end of it.. aakhir kitno to challan karoge ?

the copied the bloody thing from Colombia or something too.. without factoring in our insane traffic volume, typical desis.. construction guys ka one more scam, its huge.. politically connected "builders" get contracts for this sort of side stuff all the time, there's a whole industry.

story of the subcontinent.
