Lahore Karachi motorway most expensive in world

.
No I'm not going to say priorities. I don't believe in a welfare state, I don't believe in big government. I'm a libertarian capitalist. To hell with socialism.

My point is, that if what you're saying is correct (that this new motorway will be better), then prove it on paper, show some numbers, give me traffic statistics, demand forecasts and prove that this investment will give a higher return than simply upgrading existing national highway.

You require proof which is not a bad call and well within your rights as its all tax money and thus the govt is answerable to you and me who pay indirect taxes and direct taxes. They need to without a doubt showcase project details project research.

I can't provide it since like you I am a member of the am admi rank :p :p :p but i have seen personally seen this happen to lahore as it became a hub or sheikhupura, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad e.t.c with motorway and since I myself move between these cities a lot find both roads being used extensively by the people...

.
LOL @ Emotions? Where do you live? How many times you really drove from Lahore to Southwards?

The entire industry is using it currently. I'm not saying that it's perfect. But why build a brand new one when the existing one can be fixed easily ?

.
theoretically, yes...but the motorways we already have, havent been maintained as per theory :)

M2 is pretty maintained however recently its been all hell with massive road construction ( although the built roads are looking good and very smooth and push your cars speed. FWO know what they are doing ) .. Couple that with white flashes from crazy drivers ( which are all ) its been a really hellish ride.

Gt road or national highway is a mess and no there is no large construction going on only minimal here and there. Pot holes and the shahdara fruit market chowk about ten kilometers before saggian bridge is basically road road road big patch filled with mud and stones ( temporary stoneage road) and then road ... :p :p :p

.
Show me some demand forecasts then. Prove that the existing highway is insufficient.

Also, why not simply upgrade the existing network (which will cost significantly less) and keep expanding only when demand exceeds capacity.

Like i said The motorways is going through those ares where there is no National highways connection by making motorways it will not only connect cities with each other but also faster way of travel between cities take an example of Lahore Islamabad Motorway and GT road plus the demand will always increase the truck sale is high the chinese truck will eventually come to Pakistan the railway freight is there but still you cannot send every container by railways... and there will be new industrial states in different cities of Pakistan what would need motorways to like the one Industrial estate is Sundar Industrial estate in Lahore another is under construction near Motorway sheikhupura named Quaid e Azam industrial Estate wont that increase the load on National highway?

now

If you travel on GT road from Lahore to Islamabad it will take take you more then 6 hours to reach Islamabad why cause the GT passes through many cities there are many markets shops and what not on GT road plus traffic of cities mix with traffic coming from other cities causing a traffic jams

Whereas on Motorway if you follow speed limit of 120 Km/h them it would take 3 hours and 30 min to reach Islamabad from Lahore and vice versa that's gonna save you fuel to plus if you ever traveled to Faisalabad from Rawalpindi before motorway you would really know the importance of motorway it took 8 hours now it takes 4 hours....

But here's the thing, had the national highway been simply upgraded and expanded by linking to cities not connected previously, wouldn't that have been cheaper ? Currently you are paying a certain amount in tolls and if that doesn't cover the cost, the rest comes from your taxes. Had the project been cheaper, you'd be paying much lesser. And with simply expanding the NH network, that would have been the case.

.
It's not about maintenance, it's the fact that the M2 is still underutilized to this day. I'm pretty sure the same will be with this new motorway.

Underutilized? are you serious about that?

M-2 Toll Plaza once had 6 booth from where they collected toll tax now Islamabad had Lahore has 16 toll booths still you see long Lines of cars and buses and trucks moving on a snail speed even after they introduced E-toll tax

every bus service weather it's daewoo Bilal faisal local buses are using motorways now most of the cars are travelling on motorways and you are saying it's underutilized

How you will fix existing one when from cart to trailer have to be on same road passing through the highly populated areas? Entire Industry is using it because there is no choice, otherwise jaan sab ko payari hoti hai.

As it's not being from national treasury, so be sure whoever is funding that much big project is surely wise enough to understand the viability of Project.

By upgrading the road and implementing traffic rules.

It gets slightly congested only during special occasions...Also, there's a lot of roadwork going on, that's the cause for all that congestion in recent times.

No the cities were linked before with national road. Motorway allowed a smoother and quicker access way which allowed many people who struggled on gt roads to use motorways. The traffic expand with population and the national highway despite upgrades and expansions can't expand to accommodate it all. There are two entry ways through national highway. The saggian bridge which takes you straight through the university of veterinarian sciences and courts and the other bridge of Ravi which takes you towards minar e Pakistan ... Despite two access ways on national there is massive traffic over there in both points ...

Then there is motorway that connects gulshan e Ravi south and north lahore thokar niaz baig ... These areas are also filled and choked which shows that despite two access ways on each road and 2.5 road connection ( bcz the shahdara road and the saggian passageway are different) which shows how much the traffic into lahore has increased due to building more roads...

I don't think expansion would have helped the situation.. I use these networks and my personal view is that even mass expansion which is doubling or tripling the road ( highly unrealistic ) it still wouldn't have covered the benefits of motorway. We pay more on these roads to save our time and give us a smooth ride. Little point in paying less if our time is more wasted due to speed limits and road expansion limitations and influx of traffic. Already these roads are are reaching their limits.
Personally I wouldn't give up motorway for an expanded doubled gt road.

What about Markets schools and populated areas where you can see traffic jams all day long and how would you upgrade it when there's whole bazzar on both sides of the roads and on some places factories and schools??

Same way you build a metro in lahore's most congested area...

Seriously?

Same way you build a metro in lahore's most congested area...

metro also has a elevated track now don't say build a 6 lane highway over cities on GT road

That's what happens when you have poorly planned overpopulated cities...No amount of road expansions will solve that problem.

I was talking about the ferozepur road expansion which was done to accommodate the metro.

Janab... Upgrading highway between Lahore and Multan to achieve safety and speed on par of Motorway will cost lot more than building new one.
