Lahore Blast

We must crush the people supporting these anti Pakistani groups and confront certain nearby elements who are providing them with the logistics. God bless Pakistan. Death to our enemies
Pakistanis know where to direct their prayers but appear frustrated and confused about where to direct their anger.

Does Pakistan make a sustained effort, if it can, to identify and prosecute and punish those responsible? Or should Pakistan reactively strike India, on the principle that as Pakistan's existential enemy India must have done something wrong so its OK for Pakistanis to kill Indians?

If you listen to the words of the Maliks out there, the answer is obvious. But just reflect for a moment: if such officials knew enough to identify the culprits so quickly, before the police even investigate or any group takes credit, doesn't that mean they knew enough to warn Pakistanis of what was coming and maybe even stop it from happening in the first place? And if they didn't know these things, doesn't that just make them poseurs out to reap the disaster for their own political benefit?

India and Pakistan have been at each others throats for decades, but repeated mass bombings of civilians were never a characteristic until a generation after radical Islamic education took many Pakistanis in its grip, preaching bigotry against all seen as insufficiently Muslim. So whether or not India is behind it all, isn't the most effective way to deal with the terrorists to drain the swamp from which they were spawned?

I sense a slight change - at least you seem to be somewhat genuine this time round.

Those guys know nothing. They are just making allegations on the accepted villians in Pakistan: US, Israel, and India.

I am deeply saddened by the recent wave of attacks... hearing about someone being a direct victim in this forum was indeed very shocking... always feared this day... thank god he is ok and recovering. Bezerk, you were very courageous to be updating this forum even when your own brother was hurt. I hope all injured recover as quick as possible. God bless.

Alhamdullilah my Brother's condition is out of danger. He suffered from burns, wounds because of shattered glass and an ankle fracture. Also went unconscious because of all the smoke and poisonous gases in the air because of the blasts. Just came back from the hospital and now heading back in a while.

I thank everyone for their well wishes. Spoke to TaimiKhan when I was on my way to the hospital. I also went to the ground-zero and I can't find the right words to explain the situation over there. Standing there, it felt like hell. Which is where all these bastards who are carrying out these attacks deserve to go and suffer for eternity.

God bless the victims and I pray that everyone injured in this attack recover soon.

God Bless Pakistan.

Nice to know about your brother being ok.

this was a close call, i have alot of family in iqbal town.

there is one question that troubles me, to my simple mind i still cannot accept that its solely and exclusively the fault of the extremists in our midst, to me it seems completely logical and reasonable to believe that these guys are getting outside help in terms of logistics, planning and equipment, it seems obvious someone is providing their sail some wind, just look at the vast scope of these attacks, all over the country with remote controlled devices and plenty of bang in their bombs.

so yes we have our own extremists but would they or could (both the "would" and "could" are important questions) they be doing what they are without outside help?

i am dubious of this.

the situation is bleak, with each passing bomb we try and reassure ourselves that the pak authorities are somehow on top of things, alas we are perpetually disappointed and left counting the dead.

one thing is for certain, there are some people in our nation who are facilitating or involved in evil designs for pakistan, i only wish the pakistani's on this forum could rationally get to the bottom of it without imploding, so many tests on so many fronts.

Bombings kill 46 people in 2 Pakistan cities
PAKISTAN - 7 DECEMBER 2009

LAHORE, Pakistan – Bombings in two Pakistan cities killed 46 people Monday, as militants struck back in the wake of an army offensive against a Taliban stronghold in the northwest near the Afghan border.

Two synchronized bombs ripped through a market popular with women in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore about 9 p.m., igniting a massive fire that killed 36 people, authorities said. Hours earlier a suicide bomber killed 10 people outside a courthouse in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

About 100 people were wounded in the attacks in Lahore, which were timed to take place when the Moon Market was as its busiest. Authorities initially said both bombs were believed to be remote-controlled, but they later said a suicide bomber was suspected to have carried out at least one of them.

The blasts came within 30 seconds of each other, leaving dozens of cars and shops ablaze late into the night.

Many victims were women and children, including a dead 2-year-old, a police officer said.

Most of the militant attacks in recent weeks have been directed at security forces, though several have targeted crowded public spaces like markets, apparently to create public anger and increase pressure on the government to call a halt to the offensive. More than 400 people have been killed since the beginning of October, including 105 in a Peshawar market frequented by women. That attack occurred while U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was visiting Pakistan.

The Taliban generally claim responsibility for those attacks killing security officers, but they do not acknowledge carrying out the attacks targeting civilians. Government officials and security analysts say there is little doubt the militants are behind all the attacks.

Moon Market sells women's clothing, shoes and cosmetics.

Lahore's top government official, Khusro Pervaiz, said there were 36 dead and about 100 wounded.

"There was a blast. Then there was another," said Mohammad Nauman, who was bleeding from his nose. "Nobody knew what was happening. Everybody was running. There was fire everywhere."

Lahore is Pakistan's second-largest city. It has been hit several times by militants over the past year, including an attack on the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team and several strikes against security installations.

By attacking Lahore, militants are bringing their war to the heart of Pakistan. The city is the capital of Punjab, Pakistan's most populous province, and is considered the political and cultural center. It is also home to many army regiments because of its location next to the border with India, Pakistan's longtime foe.

The attacks came hours after a suicide bomber killed 10 people outside a courthouse in Peshawar, a northwestern city that has been repeatedly hit by bombings since October. It lies on the main road into the border region, much of which is under the control of al-Qaida and the Taliban.

The attacks have coincided with rising speculation over the future of President Asif Ali Zardari.

On Monday, the Supreme Court began examining the legality of an amnesty protecting him and 8,000 other officials from graft prosecution. The amnesty expired last month, and judges must rule on whether to reopen corruption cases against them. Although Zardari has immunity from prosecution as president, some experts say the court could now take up cases challenging his eligibility to run for office.

Zardari is unpopular according to opinion polls and has been criticized for rarely leaving the palace and meeting victims of the Taliban. There have also been media reports of a rift between him and military chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

On Monday, he and Kayani visited a hospital and met soldiers wounded in an attack last week on a mosque used by the army.

Pakistani's gather at the site of twin bomb blasts in Lahore. Bomb blasts tore through two of Pakistan's main cities on Monday killing at least 46 people and wounding more than 100 as the nation struggles to quell a worsening Taliban insurgency.

I would like to thank our non-Pakistani forum members for their support and condolences. To our Indian members I would like to point out that just like you, we feel sad and angry when there is innocent loss of life in your country or any other part of the world. The human factor is lost in all the rhetoric.

I thought this was a good time to make this point. Soon we will be pointing fingers and playing the blame game..... again.

Bezerk, I pray that Inshallah your brother makes a full recovery.

Do not sell short your internal extremists when aided by years of past ISI training for Kashmir operations and, more recently, by al Qaeda. Look at how much havoc was wreaked by similar forces in Iraq. Thousands of Iraqi's were killed by other Iraqi's. These bombings are not very sophisticated in the great scheme of military operations. Suicide bomb technology is well known by now to these groups since its perfection in Palestine and, especially, in Iraq.

To my Pakistani brothers who are feeling down. I am 100% sure this menace will end very soon, if you remember that Iraq was in same situation sometime and I recently saw US marines playing volleyball there (with subject being there is nothing much to do). I want to say peace will come back soon to Pakistan. It is important that we understand the importance of peace at this moment.

We care for Human lives.

May your brother and other victims get well soon.

For those who lost their lives, Inna lilla hi wa inna alihe rajioon.

I can not believe these animals are targeting women and children. What is wrong with them? How can someone be brainwashed to this extent where they can not even think for themselves.

"Many victims were women and children, including a dead 2-year-old, a police officer said."

These terrorists will definitely rot in hell.

No one is selling short internal extremism. Only point is one Mullah hiding in a cave can't make a bomb until and unless he have necessary components and right manual on making bomb in his hand.

Everybody knows from where these two things are coming??
