What's new

Lahore becoming Biggest City of Pakistan

.
When the displaced waziristanis and swatis came to karachi there was uproar and nationalists and ethnic parties in sindh held strikes claiming a conspiracy is going on to make them minority in thier land.At this time political target killings and gang wars in karachi also reached its peak and as result some people left karachi.Quetta and peshawer border afghanistan and it is possible some afghans have got counted in these cities,we will find out when the full report comes next year.

That's not the case. Go to al Asif, sohrab goth , etc and check facts before posting fictions. What could have happen is that most of the people who came to karachi from other provinces since 98 might still show their address in their original hometowns instead of Karachi.

But why Lahoris should migrate to FSD anyway? FSD should me made bigger so that people from rural areas near FSD can migrate to urban areas as you said to make space for farming etc. New uni's and colleges should also be opened up in FSD for people from rural areas it will be easier to attract them this way imo. @Hell hound @Zibago

Every province need new cities asap. Mardan, Abbottabad in Kpk, Faisalabad, Multan in Punjab, Sukkur, Hyderabad in Sind and Gwadar, Ziarat in Balochistan should be focused.

Bahria Town is outside of Karachi city limits. I hope Bahria Mafia never becomes apart of Karachi.
i was karachits and i have visited Bahria Town too. yes bahria town is counted in rural areas of karachi. there are many rural area within the heart of karachi i.e Benazir Bhutto Colony, and some areas of malir. rural areas of karachi belong to MDA (Malir Development authority) and few villages near Karachi situated at northern bay pass whereas urban areas of karachi belong to KDA, DHA...

but i am interested to know why dont you want bahria town a part of urban area of Karachi ? just like we have Gulsha-e-hadid. Gulshan-e-Hadid is one of the area which is far from karachi urban areas.

on Topic. we are dreaming too much.. please be realistic, we need better administrative approach for Karachi development. we even cant manage & emphasize on the water flows of the areas, roads and you are talking about skyscrapers.

.
It's because it's too far away from Karachi. Not to mention that it completely dwarfs every other town in size. It is multiple times bigger than the biggest town of Karachi. Look at how North it extends to, almost into interior Sindh... This is not Karachi... Also adding Bahria Mafia to Karachi will also them to steal land and waste all of Karachi space with one lakh 2 story farmhouses. We need high rises, not elitist mafia asylums. If Bahria Town can decrease their size and compress it together to a small size with more people per square km, I'll be glad to add it to Karachi.
if it is too far away from karachi then what about Gulshan-e-Hadid ? have you ever traveled whole Karachi because you just said that North part of Karachi almost into interior sindh ???? are you serious ? although Hyderabad is 150 Km far away from Karachi. and you can complete your Karachi visit under 50 km radius.

well according to me i highly appreciate bharia town achievement in recent years for karachi development compare to Sindh Govt. and no one can steal the Land untill there is corruption. Bahria Town purchased the Land from MDA and didn't steal the Land. and any one should be allowed to purchase the land for better development. do you know how big New york city is? why cant Bahria Town be a part of karachi ? sorry your logic is totally illogical.

What happen when main Karachi city is out of space? People will prefer living on edge of Karachi division tullu? They may as well just move to Hydrabad. High rise apartments are only way to go.

Yea, Faisalabad sounds nice. But how we're going to get Lahoris to migrate to Faislabad?

By the way, Faisalabad is extremely well planned out. Perfect choice.

Are you like a Bilawal Bhutto fan or something?

Lahore is no match for Karachi. I am from neither, but Karachi is massive and beside that a lot of other things to consider as well. The population of Karachi is well over 20 million. Census is just crap.

.
Firstly, let me say I am born and raised Karachiite and, back decades ago, Lahore was called "just a beautiful VILLAGE" when compared with Karachi. Things must have changed by then--Lahore having very competent administrators since at least early 80s while Karachi, except for the Musharraf era, having very sub-par leaders.
All that has to show somewhere.

But... UNFORTUNATELY, Karachi remains a magnet--perhaps even now with a much stronger pull than Lahore. I say 'UNFORTUNATELY', because cities becoming too big is a problem. All over the world. I wish Gujrat, Hyderabad, FSD etc take up the influx of people going to Karachi.

I also think Karachi's permanent population is not the 20+ million people--there are a lot of temp. residents who call 'mulk' their permanent places up north. These people are permanent for all practical reasons except they can't have their residency declared in two places.

So what's the solution? Firstly, this 'we should do this or that' is naive. Pakistan is a free country where people can REASONABLY live where ever they want to. Pakistan is not the China of some recent past, or Russia under Stalin, or the North Korea of present. Whatever happens needs to happen 'organically'. Look at the American experiment of moving African Americans up north? In case of Pakistan, invest in infrastructure to gently encourage people to move to Gwadar or FSD or where ever to release the pressure on Lahore and Karachi.

Dont behave like a typical mqm fan boy.
Development in Lahore is done by Punjab gov. Whereas Karachi needs no enemy as long as Mqm and PPP are there.

Let me know a single mega project in Lahore funded by federal gov. I can list down dozens of federal gov projects in Karachi.
Like K4, lyari express way, Kanupp 2, and Kanupp 3, green bus rapid bus system, Karachi circular railway, M9 motorway etc etc.

Again not with this BS of residence. For heaven sake even afghanis, bengalis and rohingas are counted in latest Karachi census. Forget about CNIC address. If anything these people inflate Karachi numbers by a bit as final report will show.

Migrations to karachi were highly exaggerated. Karachi labour being from outside isn't anything special. Islamabad become ghost town in eid and 5 million people from Lahore go back on eid. They are counted in census but I doubt all become permanent residents, you may not find them in next census 10 years from now.

i am not against any high rise or skyscraper i was talking about the OP contradicting statement. he was talking about skyscrapers and on the other side he was opposing behria town (the only better administrative organization compare to Sindh Govt). he also said that we must encourage interior sindh people to settle them in karachi on the other hand he also said that we must provide necessity to rural areas of interior sindh. OP is completely contradicting his own statements. i just emphasized on the karachi management under Sindh Govt and i said when Sindh Govt even cant manage the water flows of the areas during raining and even dont focus on water flow while constructing the road so we are dreaming & hoping too much from illiterate Sindh Govt. now got it my point of view about Karachi division tullu?

These latest census shows a surprising result, which most people hasn't noticed yet.

Lahore has already become the largest division of Pakistan in terms of population, even surpassing Karachi.

Karachi division: 16.0 million
Lahore division: 19.3 million
