The project will be located at Nabiganj Upzila in Habiganj District of Sylhet Division, in the north-eastern sector of Bangladesh.

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro has bagged anorder worth Rs 1,700 crore from Marubeni Corporation of Japan which is setting up the Bibiyana III combined cycle power plant project of 400 mw for the Bangladesh Power Development Board.

Bangladesh Power Development Board awarded the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract for setting up the power project to Marubeni Corporation of Japan, which in turn awarded the EPC sub-contract to L&T on turnkey basis.

The project will be located at Nabiganj Upzila in Habiganj District of Sylhet Division, in the north-eastern sector of Bangladesh, at a distance of approximately 130 km by road from Agartala in India.

L&T's scope of work includes design, detailed engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the complete power plant on turnkey basis. The plant will incorporate state-of-the-art advanced class gas turbine and generator from Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Japan, and high efficiency steam turbine and generator from Fuji Electric company, Japan, which will be procured by L&T. L&T-Sargent and Lundy, a joint venture company of L&T, will carry out the plant integration and detailed engineering, using proprietary technology of Sargent & Lundy LLC, USA.

i am don't understand the project, anyway it is power plant project, if it is good one then I am happy
Basically the Japanese Company that has been awarded with the contract to Bibiyana III combined cycle power plant project of 400 mw for the Bangladesh Power Development Board has given a sub-contract to make the power plant of this proposed project to Larsen & Toubro.Isn't it a breach of contract on their part to employ another sub-contractor in this project??

I am not happy with it. It should have gone to Pakistani company who did some successful projects in Punjab recently. Though they raise the project cost but it is worth.

Only because of Japan, larsons got it. Ofcourse a Pakistani company would have better job. We all know the poor quality of Indians, it reflects in their work.

Pray please point us to the projects that Pakistani Company has completed which trumps L&T's feats. Just a head-start they manufacture nuclear power plants. Heck even they are making headway into making Fusion Reactors. For details pls click the link below.

These people live off us. India frees them, feeds them, shelters them, now we have to give them electricity? Can they do anything?

@Bilal9 bhai, @bongbang ,@BDforever bhai, @chaanmia sir,what's your opinion in this matter??

In my opinion L&T is probably one of the best if not the best company in India to do this work (powerplant design and commissioning). Their work is is supposed to be the highest quality in India however in this project their work scope is,
  1. design,
  2. detailed engineering,
  3. supply,
  4. installation and
  5. commissioning
I honestly do not know of very many companies in Pakistan, much less China who can do this type of combined cycle power-plant commissioning at this scale.

For L&T this is a rather small project. Their home turf projects are far larger, in the range of 1500, 2000 even 4000 megawatts. But the Chinese have been eating away their market-share in India lately (because Chinese power-plant components are a lot cheaper to make as far as economies of scale). For L&T this is almost like a home turf project.

Back to this project, this should be a cakewalk for L&T as this is rather small. And their employee/labor costs makes them attractive to Marubeni as a subcontractor. They are answerable to Marubeni for their quality of work so work should be completed with diligence and quality oversight.

The Bangladesh Power Dev. Board has been a longtime customer of L&T products (since the 70's) such as power distribution transformers, middle/upper-end switchgear and even transmission towers. Their costs are reasonable and quality is adequate.

L&T has benefited from the long-term closed-economy status of India. All powerplants made or commissioned in India used local manufacture of components (starting from turbines all the way down to PLC controllers) and L&T was the India leader in all this.

Bangladesh or Pakistan always imported items and I'd say that hurt us in the long run. Only beneficiaries were the indentors/importers and the chaur ministers who got paid off.

Only lately has Bangladesh become (rapidly) self sufficient in producing mid-grade transformers (up to 133 KV) and low voltage switchgear, which should have been twenty years ago. But better late than never.

These people live off us. India frees them, feeds them, shelters them, now we have to give them electricity? Can they do anything?

Kya Harj Hai? We're buying an Indian company's services with money. Read the description above....8-)

I also dont have anything to say. But @iajdani may have something to say as its his home district :D
Combined cycle power plant is always good. And BD power generation target is huge.

What is BD doing in the Solar sector?

Indian company & employees make money & remits it back to India. Every bit helps. Cheer up.
