‘Bid by militants to enter State by sea’

Central Intelligence agencies have alerted authorities in Gujarat about a possible infiltration attempt by terrorists via the sea.

Acting on this information, the State government has put Kutch district, which shares land and sea borders with Pakistan, on alert and has beefed up security.

“The Central Intelligence agencies shared an input that at least two boats, one of which having a Pakistani national on board, may arrive on Jakhau port, a leading fishing harbour, on the western shore of the district,” said A.K. Jadeja, border range IG of Gujarat. According to him, the agencies warned that one boat is heading towards the international maritime boundary line near Jakhau. The boat reportedly began its journey from a port in Andhra Pradesh.

“Upon nearing Jakhau, one Pakistan national, who came there on another boat from Pakistan, came on board and then they headed towards Jakhau,” Mr. Jadeja added.

The BSF has an extensive presence along the border.

“Coastal police station are on alert and all vehicles coming from ports are being checked,” a police official said.

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday apprehended two Pakistan nationals, along with three fishing boats from the Harami Nalla creek area along the India-Pakistan border in Kutch, Gujarat.

The two persons — 22-year-old Manzoor and 19-year-old Abid — apprehended by the BSF are both fishermen who had ventured into the Indian side of the creek area for fishing.

Three engine-fitted wooden boats have also been seized, including fishing nets, ice boxes and other personal belongings. After apprehension of the fishermen and their boats, the BSF personnel conducted a through search in the entire creek to check whether more fishing boats had ventured into the area.

The two persons were handed over to local police for further interrogation.

In the past, the BSF had seized several fishing boats as well as fishermen from the neighbouring country while fishing in the Indian side of the Harami Nalla creek along the border.

Lately the captured Pakistanis are not announced in media... Human right organizations create complete nuisance... Like they are creating in Myanmar.

India never announced about Col Habib captured in Nepal... Secrecy is the only option against Human right organizations...

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday apprehended a Pakistani fisherman and seized his boat from the Harami Nala creek area along the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, a senior official said.

The Pakistani national has been identified as Sartaj Ibrahim, a resident Badin district of the Sindh province of the neighbouring country, the official added.

Ibrahim was apprehended by a BSF patrolling party when he was allegedly fishing “well inside” the Indian territory in the Harami Nala creek area along the border this morning, he added.

Given the sensitive nature of the area, even Indian fishermen are barred from fishing in the creek. However, Pakistani fishermen often venture into the Indian waters for a catch, the official said.

Last month, the BSF had apprehended five Pakistani fishermen and seized 21 of their boats from the same area.

In a related development, the Indian Coast Guard, which has been keeping surveillance near the maritime boundary off the Gujarat coast near Kutch following the capture of several Indian fishermen by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency in recent years, managed to free an Indian fishing boat.

According to a release by the Defence PRO for Gujarat, the incident took place on October 27, when the Coast Guard Ship ‘Ankit’ located a Gujarat-registered boat ‘Al Sha Asht Husen’ near the IMBL.

“The boat was reportedly in the custody of a Pakistan MSA ship. On continuous persuasion, the Pakistani counterparts released the boat with warning,” it said

As the boat had crossed into Pakistan waters, the Coast Guard seized its documents for legal action, the release added.

In another development, Coast Guard rescued nine fishermen stranded in the mid sea off Pipavav port in Amreli district on October 28, said the release.

Nine fishermen on board a boat took shelter on a vessel after their boat sunk near Shiyal Bet island near Pipavav, it added.

All of them were rescued by the Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-419 and handed them over to the nearest marine police station, said the release. PTI COR PJT PD NRB ADS

The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended five Pakistani fishermen and seized six boats from the Harami Nala creek area along the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, an official said on Friday.

A patrol party of the BSF’s 79th battalion apprehended the fishermen when they were allegedly fishing inside Indian territory in the Harami Nala creek along the border, the official of Gujarat frontier of the paramilitary force said.

While three of them were apprehended Thursday, the other two were held by the BSF during a search operation in the creek this afternoon, he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the apprehended fishermen belonged to villages in Sujawal district of Sindh province of Pakistan, he said.

Those who were caught Thursday were identified as Niyaz Hussain, 28, Laung Ali, 35, and Rajib Ali, 32.

Given the sensitive nature of the area even Indian fishermen are barred from fishing in the creek. However, Pakistani fishermen from the coastal areas of Sindh often venture into the Indian waters for a catch.

Several fishing boats and Pakistani fishermen were caught in the past while fishing in the Indian side of the creek area.

In September, the BSF had apprehended five Pakistani fishermen and seized 21 boats from the same area.
