KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Tuesday said provincial security organs and the governor’s office had been informed of a possible militant attack in eastern Kunar province.
At least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and eight others kidnapped early on Sunday morning when militants stormed their base in the Ghaziabad district of the province.
A large number of government officials, lawmakers and residents attended a ceremony for delivery of the soldiers’ bodies to their families at the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in Kabul.
In a statement, the spy service said 200 armed rebels, including Pakistani and Chechen militants, had a plan to attack ANA check posts in Ghaziabad.
Information was shared with relevant departments on February 9, the intelligence agency said, rejecting reports that it had no clue to the plot.
