Bollywood’s famous playback singer Kumar Sanu has refused to perform in any show promoted by a Pakistani, the singer announced in a video on his social media accounts.

Sanu further shared that he, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan will soon visit the US and will perform at events, organised only by promoters who aren’t Pakistanis.

“Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and I are coming to the United States to perform but we will not attend any show promoted by a Pakistani,” the singer said. “Promoters who are from other countries have nothing to worry about. We will be performing in their shows.”

According to India Today, the popular trio of the 90s were set to perform together at an event in the US on November 17. But after hearing that the concert is being organised by a Pakistani national, Moazzma Hunain, FCIWE asked the singers to refrain from being a part of the aforementioned concert.

(edit by Jyotish: FWICE: Federation of Western India Cine Employees is a film industry worker's union in India and the umbrella body of all Indian cinema associations.)

“Having learnt that you along with you contemporaries are scheduled to perform in the USA on November 17th, 2019 that is organised by a Pakistani national Moazzma Hunain, we at FWICE are requesting for you reversal step that would delink your participation from the said event,” read a part of the notice.

“Back of the tensions prevailing with our neighbours, more so after abrogation of Article 370, FWICE which holds the dignity of our country as paramountly important, has time and again informed the members of the film fraternity to abstain from associating with a Pakistani National in any platform of cultural or professional activities in Pakistan or in any part of the world,” the notice further stated.

The notice also asked the singers to “not throw open any ground for disharmony and displeasures arising out of an adverse eventuality in the future”.

This is actually not a smart move.

If the Bollywood industry, in this case singers, do not want to work or associate with Pakistanis, this would mean that they (Pakistanis) will have less exposure to Bollywood.

And Bollywood is one of the pillars of soft power of India.

Even though many Pakistanis here on this forum say that they do not watch Bollywood films, listen to the music or go to the shows, many other Pakistanis (in other countries) do.

By 'boycotting' Pakistani promoters FWICE might think that this is a win, but that is only temporary.

Because I think, at least in the United States, next to Indians, Pakistanis are the ones that go to these Bollywood shows.
And because this news will appear in Pakistani media (in Pakistan and the U.S.), they will stop going to these shows as a reaction to the 'boycott' of Pakistani promoters.
This will bring the Bollywood singers less income.
In the long run, Pakistani promoters will also lose interest in organizing Bollywood shows.

The Indians that are in charge of FWICE are way too emotional in their decision-making.

Look at the U.S, for example.
They might see China as an enemy.
But they do not 'boycott' the Chinese (promoters) if they want to show American films or organize concerts for American singers.
Instead they help them by working together to promote movies and shows.
Because they know that this is part of their soft power.

So, instead that Indians are utilising their soft power (in the Pakistani community), they are actually weakening it by these emotional 'boycotts'.

These 'boycotts' will however be seen as a blessing in disguise by Pakistani nationalists.

You are speaking of the 80s, 90s when Bollywood was big as Pakistan did not have that large of an entertainment industry.

Now, our soap opera and drama industry has taken off and has viewers from all over the world. Our film industry is also getting better.

After Pakistani content, most of us prefer American content and films, dramas from other Muslim countries (notably Turkey.)

You are misinformed. It is no longer fashionable to watch cheap, vulgar Bollywood.

Pakistanis who watch Bolly''shit''wood are retards, how the f@@@ can you sit and watch the same old shit over and over?

Mostly some youth with questionable morals who just want to see female skin, cheap humor, and filthy dancing scenes.

Pakistans Film industry was their only hope. Anyway, their own decision.

There should be a laugh react. We have a way better music industry in Pakistan. We need just more exposure. We need to brand ourselves now. This is time to promote Pakistan as a brand.
India is an ocean of music, Bollywood , pop , punjabi pop , classical and ever bigger regional music from south, west, east etc .
