But during war this surface fleet will do nothing if there's no support from under the water...when are we going to build our sub fleet?

When are you expecting a war will break out? Hopefully, BN will get one or two submarines before that. But, will it be enough?

Khulna Shipyard will build container vessels and Landing Craft Utilities (LCU) for use alongside warships.

Vice Admiral M Farid Habib, Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Navy, flagged off construction on Sunday.

The navy has commissioned the building of two container vessels and two high-tech LCU craft worth almost Tk 1 billion.

The LCUs will be used for swift transportation of equipment.

Managing Director of the shipyard Commodore Riaz Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech before the naval chief.

The container vessel will be 75 metres long and 13.5 metres wide and 5.20 metres deep. Each vessel will have two 600 horsepower engines.

LCU vessels will be 42 metres long, 10 metres wide and 1.80 metres deep. The vessels will have a capacity to bear a load of 415 tonnes.

They, too, will have two 600 horsepower engines.

This one looks ok. One of the previous LCU looked like a rectangular do-tala building.. -_-

Someone seriously needs to look into the design.

These units dont need support from 'under the water'. They are most likely to be used within the rivers and lakes and not go deep-ocean. Hence close combat helicopter support would suffice well i believe.

Cheers!!!

KSY Should be proud of its new assignment to build two civilian use container ships and two military use LCUs. The LCUs can carry 415 ton each. I am not sure these can carry tanks, too. By watching the position of back hatch it seems the LCUs are not for tank carrying. What is your idea, gentlemen?

I am quite sure you are right about the use of the use of LCUs. These are certainly for use in the river to transport weapons to any intended area. Note the draft. It is only 1.8 m. These are specially built for river navigation.

Yes exactly. Now it makes sense why they made helipads on the LCUs!

To fish with style..:taz::taz:

Thats the plan bro. And the fishes would be strategically used to bombard approaching enemy vessels, in order to stink their crews to death or surrender. Strategy i tell you..!

A 42 m LCU can easily enter a small river channel with the intended weapons and troops. The Heli will then transport the men and weapons to the intended place 10 or 20 km away to a border. The riverine LCUs will certainly extend the reach of both our army and navy.

I think that other than big guns, the LCUs can also be fitted with missiles. Let us see what is in the BN plan although I am sure BN will not let civilians see the real teeth, to be always folded and placed under wrap.

Now one question, what purpose the hatch back is to serve? It is not needed if tanks and vehicles are not to be loaded. But, the height difference between the deck and hatchback puzzles me because vehicles cannot move up. Is there another lower deck?

Cheeers to that. Anyways looks better than the last box trawler.

That LCVP (landing craft vehicle personnel) is actually a very good looking boat. But, the angle of 1st photograph was bad. There are other good photographs taken from the top.
