Krishna to meet Khaleda Friday

Dhaka, July 5 (bdnews24.com) — Indian foreign minister S M Krishna will meet Khaleda Zia during his visit to Dhaka.

The meeting will be held at Khaleda's Gulshan office at 11:30am on Friday, her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told bdnews24.com.

"A meeting between the Indian foreign minister and the opposition leader has been scheduled to be held at her Gulshan office at 11:30pm on Friday," he said.

Khaleda on Tuesday slated the government for deals with the 'country'.

"The government is conspiring to hand over Bangladesh to another country. They (the government) are out to turn Bangladesh into a dependent country by amending the constitution," she said.

"The country's interests were not taken care of while signing deals with India," she added.

Krishna is arriving in Dhaka at a time when many in Bangladesh and India have questioned the prudence of prime minister Manmohan Singh's recent remarks on Bangladesh, though the India government later tried to play it down.

"Our relations (with Bangladesh) are quite good. But we must reckon that at least 25 percent of the population of Bangladesh swears by the Jamaat-e-Islami and they are very anti-Indian, and they are in the clutches, many times, of the ISI," Singh had remarked at a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"…political landscape in Bangladesh can change at any time. We do not know what these terrorist elements, who have a hold on the [Jamaat-e-Islami] elements in Bangladesh, can be up to," said Singh.

The Prime Minister's Office in India uploaded the transcript of the Q&A session but later removed it.

Singh also called up Sheikh Hasina on Monday evening apparently to clarify his controversial remarks when he also confirmed his September 6-7 visit to the country.

Now this is becoming a bit interesting,
I wonder whats cooking.

.
That is a good move by India. India should cultivate better relationship with both AL and BNP

It is common practice for foreign visiting dignitaries to meet the PM, President and important political leaders, to include Opposition leaders.

Hopefully, the FM should also meet the Jamaaiti leader, who have done well in the local elections, to understand their standpoint.

. .
For Padma's Illish, I believe the Indian PM is including the West Bengal Chief Minister in his entourage.

The actual reason is to discuss the water sharing of the Ganges.

Apparently, there is efforts being made by India to settle the issue.

One has to wait and see.

Jamaat lost this election and their image too. After MMS's speech (about Jamaat), there is little possibility that Indian FM will meet with Jamaati leaders.

It will be interesting to see whether MMS meet with Jamaat leaders or not during his upcoming visit to BD next september, but lets see what happen cuz situation could change any time (as MMS said in his speech).

.
It would be worthwhile if the Indian FM meets the Jamaatis.

It is important to meet one to one so that their exact ideology can be understood in a favourable environment.

What do you mean by they lost. If I am not wrong then they secured third place after BNP and Awami league. Please check the fact. :undecided:

Mr. Krishna welcome to meet Khaleda Zia however this will not change BNP's stance. Bangladesh come first.

.
Mr Krishna's visit to BD is not to change the outlook of any party.

Bangladeshi Political parties are not green behind their ears!

Is Mr Krishna waiting for permission to meet Khaleda from any Tom, Dic.k and Harry?!

If one goes by the way Bangladesh politics is being projected on this forum by Bangladeshi poster, neither Hasina nor Khaleda are only interested in maintain the supremacy of their families and do not really care about the Nation.

I am sure the Americans will be playing their part!
